Just buried cakes outside that had some contams, but....
    #14433136 - 05/11/11 02:10 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So after dark, where I had previously dug a couple large holes near these flowery lookin thingys. I dumped my 5 pint BRF cakes.

Story is they were like 98% colonized then green popped up.  I've had them isolated from the rest of the incubating bunch.  Most of them had healed 100% but i didnt trust putting them in the martha as I know green can pop back up and contaminate the whole space. so i decided to take them outside

3 out of 5 completely healed up like i said, they even had a very strong mushroomy smell when i dumped them in their lil hole. one had a very thin strip of dark green, another had a blotch of a now dulling and regressing neon yellow and where the green WAS.  They all were attempting to fruit.

I threw some mixed coir and cactus soil on them... about 2" of a fresh covering.  if i would be expecting shrooms in our rain every couple of days, 55degree night 60-75 day temp. when should i start lookin?

sorry ive been lookin on the forum havent found a whole lot to my situation and ive never had any contams before so ive never had to do this...

always a good idea to try outdoor patches with contaminated substrate where nature can help deal with it. the coir will need to colinise first, so maybe check back in a week after you made the outdoor patch and see what happens.

thanks for the advice. i didnt want the substrate that was 99% colonized to go to :cuteshit: and i sure didnt want it in my house even though it looked to "cure" itself... i'd like my home to stay trich free as possible.... ty  :cheer:

I would try to take maybe an inch off, and as the above poster said check back in a week, I only wish I lived somewhere mushrooms can grow naturally, but with the low humidity here I'm forced inoors! Just be glad you have good enough conditions to not toss your contams, and good luck with the rest of the grow.

i dont know anything about outdoor growing but i have had a similar situation. i just had 2 old quart jars of b+ on popcorn and had nothing to do with them so i dumped them next to some flowers and covered them with a little soil. probably about half an inch. i watered my flowers like i normally did and this was in the end of the summer. i didnt even pay attention to them until i noticed a little chipmunk running around in that area. i walked over there were some short fat mushrooms. one of them had chunks missing and this chipmunk had been eating my mushroom!!!

i wish i had seen him after it kicked in but it was still a funny story.

my point is you can definitely get something from those cakes.
