Does anyone here work as a blogger?
    #14434811 - 05/11/11 12:54 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I've been working as a freelance writer for a few months now through entry-level sites like TextBroker and ECopyWriters, but I wanted to set up a blog or three and start using them as a source of trickle-down cashflow and writing exercise. I've got two ideas right now, and even have some posts already written for one of them.

I wanted to kinda read up on it so I make fewer mistakes while trying to monetize my blog. I understand this isn't going to be lucrative (freelance writing isn't, usually) but I read that a blog is a great way to get your name out there while you're trying to build a reputation, and it'll give me some writing samples to send off to potential clients and employers.

Are there any good books on blogging I should know about? I was look at the Blogging For Dummies book, as well as Wordpress for Dummies, they seem to have fairly high reviews on Amazon, but I'm open to almost any suggestions.

At the same time, if anyone here runs a monetized (or even an ad-free) blog that gets readers regularly, lemme know either in this thread or in a PM. I'd like to hear whatever tips you have for me.

im not a writer by any means.. i have looked into this while i had a deep obsession for seo.

your best friend in blogging is google. you really cant go wrong.

let me do a quick search and find some user friendly programs for you. blogging is an awesome tool that takes time to get rolling.. the biggest trick is to get readers, if you can accomplish that you can get seo ball rolling.

I have two ideas, one for a blog on apocalypse survival, the other kind of a comedic, more "metro" type blog for people who like to read funny stuff about others lives, mostly told from the standpoint of me in the dating world. My money is on Apocalypse Sometime (the first one) being the heavy hitter, the other one (The Loser Chronicles) will be mostly writing practice. I plan to stick ads on 'em and make some dough if I can. It won't be lucrative, but think about it, as long as those ads are on your page, the advertisers will just keep sticking money in your pockets.

I've been writing online for a couple of months now, doing on-demand stuff like Textbroker.com. It's not a bad living, but I'd like more of my own direction to go in as far as what to write.
