When to Toss Out

I started seven jars of cracked corn on Monday. Inoculated with LC at about midnight. It's noon on Wednesday. How long should I wait to see growth before I toss my jars? Also, it's very loose in the jars, not packed at all, is this a problem?

id let em go at a month... ive seen growth using multispore in 15+ days.. sometimes it just takes longer for some reason.. the looseness is fine and probably beneficial actually..

Give it at least a week before you fully give up on it if it was inoculated with LC.

I grew mycelium in 4% honey-water. The growth in the clear liquid looked very stringy and white. I sucked it up into a syringe and inoculated PP 1 cup jars with a CC-Verm mixture that was boiled for 15 minutes, then cooked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour. Mixture added to jars then steamed for an hour with a rolling boil in a closed pot. Once cooled for 12 hours I shot 1-4 cc's in each.

iv had jalisco spores germ after 4 months..... i would give your cubes a month if you used ms or about a week or two if you have used a lc .... if no growth in that time then start over. how long has your lc been going ?

If by "CC-verm" you mean coir and vermiculite, you may be disappointed with the results. Coir provides supplemental nutrition when used in combination with another, more calorie-dense substrate such as grain spawn or grain flour spawn, but it is not that great a substrate when inoculated directly without supplementation of some sort.
It will work if it is hydrated correctly and you managed to sterilize it properly, but you are unlikely to get decent yields. If you are going to do boiled substrates, I highly recommend using BRF. You will get MUCH better yields.

Aha - then, forget what I said!
Are you planning on fruiting out of the jars or as a cake? Or do you plan to spawn to bulk?
Your sterilization procedure is definitely non-standard for a grain, but it's conceivable that it might work.

I sterilized that way because I had no pressure cooker and I wanted only mycelium to grow in there. I plan to fruit with cakes since I just wanna see a fruit asap. I've never once had a successful jar colonization.

You may end up with a lesson relating to your signature. But, I wish you the best of luck. It's completely possible that baking in the oven was enough to kill off any bacteria or endospores inside the grain, and then steaming in the jars re-sterilized the surface.

Thanks Sili I just looked at the containers with a microscope eyepiece and saw some microscopic frosting on the inside layer of some of the jars. Looks like a window in wintertime (on the microscopic level. Has it begun?
