Ecstatic Immortalism

I believe that activities which are commonly referred to as "spiritual" have the potential to drastically expand the scope of what it means to be human.
By developing our ability to remember dreams, we gain access to a whole level or realm of experience that for many people is simply closed off. And by mastering the subtle but magnificent art of lucid dreaming, we learn to master that world and to drastically expand its possibilities. We can experience flight, and adventure, and magic of many kinds by passing through the various "gates of dreaming".
Even more subtle and even more interesting is the skill of having out of body experiences. The experience of floating out of your physical body and exploring a spiritual realm is awe-inspiring, it is something that we would have no real reason to expect is even possible, and yet, once you have experienced it... there it is. It evokes a sense of wonder and mystery that enriches life and stimulates a feeling of awe. What is really going on here?
And meditation, taken deep enough, opens us to realms of peace and serenity and tranquility. We are able to rise above our fears, desires, and disappointments like a balloon rises above the earth and floats freely in the air.
Through hatha yoga (physical yoga) we awaken the body, infuse it with breath, and activate its latent potentials, becoming strong, flexible and free. We expand the bodies capacities to more closely match the infinite abilities of the soul.
Through prayer, chanting and mantras we discipline and pattern the mind like a gardener plucking weeds from his soil and planting flowers in their place.
And by spiritualizing our diet, replacing sugar, chemicals, preservatives and meats with organic superfoods, fresh vegetables and healing elixirs, we continuously enhance our health until normal, sober waking life is a virtually blissful state.
I like to think about the state of a hang-over. When we poison our bodies, we become almost unimaginably sick and unhappy. I like to think of a vegan organic superfood anti-oxidant diet as leading to a "reverse- hangover" where we are elevated through our perfect diet to a state that is as far above "normal" as a hang-over is below it.
How can we even imagine what the limits of this kind of self-transformation might be? Could we extend our lifespans by five years? by ten? by twenty?
Could we achieve a meditation induced bliss that is stronger than the purest ecstasy? Or enter a non-chemically induced shamanic trance that is every bit as immersive and incredible as the most potent mushroom trip?
Could we finally heal our minds and our thought patterns in such a way that our day-to-day lives become completely purified, free of fear, free of longing, free of pain, saturated with bliss, love and perfect clarity?
The only way to find out is to try, steadfastly, with discipline and focus. I find this journey infinitely exciting, and invite you to join in this great experiment, to find out, through practice, how magnificent our human lives can truly be.
I call this path Ecstatic Immortalism, because the ultimate goal is to live forever, in perfect bliss.
Of course, this goal may be ultimately unattainable, but as they say "shoot for the stars... even if you miss you will land on a cloud". So while I may not live forever (and I may not even want to) if I aim for the goal of immortality I may at least attain extraordinary longevity. And if I aim for perfect, unalloyed and permanent blissfull ecstasy, I may at least attain profound and lasting happiness.
Yoga. Deep breathing with awareness. Vegan organic superfood diet. Regular daily meditation. Chanting, prayer and study of scriptures. Lucid dreaming, astral projection and, with great care, shamanic use of plant allies... these are the materials from which I will build my vehicle, the vehicle to carry me to the supreme abode of transcendent awakening, enlightenment, Ascension to a higher realm of being.
May all beings be well and happy. May all beings be free of fear and pain.
OM.
