Melatonin has always worked well for me. Your body produces it naturally and is a native substance to your brain, so it's natural.

I get enough cock haha. But seriously I'm Vegan so chicken is out. I've been really unwell for about 2 years so all my vitamins and mineral stores are shit. I take supplements and eat a lot of fresh vegies and fruit. Oh and tonnes of soy products too.
I've tried valerian root, doesn't work. Ughh.

Cannabis?
The best way to go to sleep regularly is to learn to control your breathing. Inhale and exhale increasingly more slowly, increasingly more deeply and you'll find that you fall asleep.
Every time.
Eat a very filling meal that's as devoid as possible of sugars. I recommend oatmeal and milk. Having a full belly encourages the body to promote the inducement of sleep.

physical activity will help too.
Start practicing meditation or something else to relax your mind & body.
I think most sleep deprivation is caused by stress, diet &/or lack of exercise, or so combination of those.

I was under the impression that one should allow time for digestion before sleep as its harder to sleep on a full stomach because you send your body into digestion mode, when it should really be winding down for sleep.
Instead its suggested you have a light snack to take your body off starving mode. If youre a little hungry.

Perform a body scan. It's almost guaranteed to work, and you don't need to 'take' anything.

That's right. I can tell from personal experience that if you eat less than two hours before going to bed, sleep comes less easily, will be less effective and you run a very real risk of morning sickness. Eating large quantities just before bedtime is a really bad idea.

Well I have no smokeable sleeping aids unfortunately. I eat really healthy foods all the time. I try the breathing exercises every night. I don't get to sleep until at least 5am and then I have to get up. I go for walks too to try and make me tired. I just don't know what to do. Where is magic when I need it?! Haha.
What is a body scan?

Did you click the link? It's a way of emptying your mind by focusing on different parts of your body in a predetermined order. If you do it right, you'll be asleep long before you reach the top of your head.

L-tryptophan works well for this. It's an essential amino acid. Other people have mentioned melatonin. Well, melatonin is not something we naturally ingest, however L-tryptophan is and L-tryptophan converts to melatonin.
I just bought some L-tryptophan off amazon.com, they have pretty good deals at the moment. I bought it because it's purported to help stabilize mood but unfortunately it didn't live up to its potential. It works well for sleep though.

kava-kava and melatonin caps should both be available at your local heath food store. as mentioned above physical activity. even if an hour and a half before you goto bed you do fit in push ups, sit ups, if you can pull ups and then a shower it will really make a difference. Combine them as you see fit and talk to the person at the health food store they prolly have some good advice, they always do. In jail most people cant do shit but work out, shower/jack-off and hope to sleep off as much time as you can.
Hope I could help

You are under an incorrect impression.
The phenomenon you are describing may be true for "some" people but the phenomenon of "the itis", clinically known as "postprandial somnolence" is well established and quite well known.

Yeah it is used for people with OCD. I take supplements for pretty much everything already. As well as eat healthy and exercise. I just can't turn my mind off, ever. I like reading but I heard it was bad to do anything if you want to sleep.
What is kava kava from? I can't do anything involving arm movement due to a cunt of a bursur in my shoulder.

Bullshit. Eating large quantities just before bedtime is the common method of food ingestion all over the world and has been for milennia. "Dinner" or a meal eaten closest to bedtime, usually served between 6 and 10 PM is the most popular universal dining time. Most people in most places have scanty if any breakfast, a light to medium-light lunch followed by the largest meal of the day which is dinner.
"Just before bedtime" is more like 2 hours before bedtime. Usually individuals will stay up after eating and either talk communally or engage in some kind of cultural activity before the majority of the members of the familial or tribal unit go to bed.
There is so much bullshit going around the shroomery boards these days. I swear it's like people just make it up and others nod in ascent and before you know it the whole pond is full of tadpoles nodding their head.

Kava or kava-kava (Piper methysticum) (Piper: Latin for 'pepper', methysticum: (Latinized) Greek for 'intoxicating') is a crop of the western Pacific.
The name kava(-kava) is from Tongan and Marquesan;[1] other names for kava include ʻawa (Hawaiʻi), 'ava (Samoa), yaqona (Fiji), and sakau (Pohnpei).
The roots of the plant are used to produce a drink with sedative and anesthetic properties. Kava is consumed throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia (including Hawaii), Vanuatu, Melanesia and some parts of Micronesia. Kava is sedating and is primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity. Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. A Cochrane Collaboration systematic review of its evidence concluded that it was likely to be more effective than placebo at treating short-term social anxiety.[2] Safety concerns have been raised over liver toxicity largely due to the use of stems and leaves by supplement makers, as opposed to solely the root of the plant as dictated by traditional uses.[3][4] However, based on a retrospective study of retained Piper methysticum drug materials in Germany, the alkaloid pipermethystine, occurring to about 0.2% in the leaves, is an unlikely cause for the observed hepatotoxicity.[5] Whether kava hepatotoxicity may be due to contamination with aflatoxicosis or other mould hepatotoxins, requires further studies.[6] Heavy use of kava appears to lead to malnutrition, weight loss, liver damage (causing elevated serum γ -glutamyl transferase and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels), renal dysfunction, rashes, pulmonary hypertension, macrocytosis of red cells, lymphocytopenia, and decreasing platelet volumes.[7]
