stunted incubation?? 5 weeks and still waiting

Hi all, I have 8 pf cakes incubating right now at 83-86 degrees f. They have been incubation now for soon to be 6 full weeks and none are fully caked yet. There are two holes in each lid for inoculation. Four jars used 1.5 cc b+ spores and the other four I used 1cc. How can I get my batches to incubate faster? Is there anyway to boost the speed of this current pf batch also? Thanks for any advice!

Put four holes next time, shake syringe real good. And if they are slow you can flip jar over on an extra lid so that the co2 leaves the jar more

Isn't incubation out-dated? Not saying you should not incubate them... Just IME you can tuck them wherever, if u can walk around and you dont feel cold, the jars will do just fine. Do you have pictures?

I would also suggest that you try to get them in a place that sets at a stable temp in the house. for example, you could put them in the cupboard above the refrigerator. I have a spot that I can maintain the temp between 75 and 80 degrees and have great results.

IME=in my experience and please stop shaking your jars
besides the inoculation points do you have some kind of filter for Gas Exchange?

To shake or not to shake? Why are there so many contradictory threads. Many saying shaking helps. Many saying shaking is bad. Which shold I believe?
And my only air exchange filter is the two holes covered with tin foil. Should I punch more holes?

hmmm so many things wrong is the reason, I cant believe they arent green yet.... Incubators are out of date and cause contams. 83-86 degrees is way to hot! The inside of the jars are up to 3 degrees warmer so u actual temp range is 86-89. BRF is not to be shaken. WBS and other grains are shaken, Id start over man.....

To the last two poster...you need more than just tinfoil to cover your inoculation holes if they are just punched hole you atleast need them stuffed with poly The tinfoil is only in place to prevent moisture from entering during PCing after you inoculate you take the foil off
zeemped-- You shake your jars when inoculating with LC,With MS you don't shake

I been watching my jars. Its only been like 40 hours. The only thing Im noticing it in one of the jars it appears that there is a visible black piece of spore i injected from the syringe.
It must be because it has little white arms shooting off it. Can this really be some spore forming mycelium or am I looking at black mold.
Nothing in the rest of jars but Im pretty damn certain thats what it is. There was a lot of spores in my syringes so Im really not surprised actually.
Anybody have any comments or concerns? I should probably keep any eye on it. As long as it gets whiter and not blacker I guess it should be ok.

the only threads that contradict are threads that are years old.
look at the date of the information you are reading. that tends to give you some understanding of what it is you are actually reading.
if a thread from 5 years ago tells you to shake your jars every day.
and a thread from 2 days ago tells you not to.
which do you think you should believe?

Well the black spot is visibly getting bigger. There is actually like three little spots and they are as a matter of fact straight down from the noc holes. even after like 8 hours visible growth. Nothing from the the other jars though. Its only been 2 days though I prolly got lucky with the one.
Also waiting on the LC to get going and whether or not that will be a success.
Loving the science aspect of it I hope to get a little more advanced on the next run without burning my pockets.
I even have this baby thermometer that goes across the forehead I been using to measure the temp of the jars. Not doing too bad if I do say so myself.

lol visible black spore that gets bigger? Wrong my friend... What might be a "Visible" spore is actually probably 3 or 4 hundred. And spores do not get bigger. Thats mold my friend.

I might as well add that black mold. Is not good. Get it out of your house.

i would say definitely a negative on the shaking brf jars if you think about it the verm layer is filtering so if theres anything on the top shake just mixes it right in to take over the cake.
The LC though I have my questions about shaking that and I would assume it about a good 3-4 days before seeing that take over just like regular germination with any spore?
