Help identifiying please...
    #14430654 - 05/10/11 04:24 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow? These grow in a park near my dorm. However they only grow by one tree in the park, and there are only a few there at any given time.
Gills:
Not good at this, but i would say white, or very light brown. They are not attached.
Stem:
Approximately 1-2 inches in lengeth. Narrow, and hollow.
Cap:
Approximately 1/2 inch in diameter. Conical. Dark brown at the top, where it almost looks like a nipple. Then fades to basically white around the edges.

Spore print color:
Currently taking a spore print, I will post when it is complete. Hoping someone can id without it, but give me about 30.
Bruising:
Well I can say that it doesn't bruise blue, that's about it.
Other information:
Too much of a noob to provide any other info.
Habitat.

I realize these pics are basically worthless, but cut me some slack it's all I got.

I suspect they are Mycena. However, I would like to know for sure what's growing over there.

Probably Mycena, but without clear pictures no one will be able to tell for sure except you.

I wish camera phones would just go away and never come back. The cameras in them are dreadful.

In years to come I bet the camera's in cell phones will be better then some of the best digital cameras on the market today.

Very true that. What is considered a telephone today would have been called a supercomputer 10 years ago. All that pressed into the size of a credit card. But for a good camera not mega- or tera- or ginormopixels are relevant. Precision optical lenses make a good camera.

Not sure how well they work but there are heaps of phone "hacks" on the net for attaching lenses to mobile phones from the extremely complicated to just duct taping one on there.

Photographic image quality depends on a chain of elements. The weakest link in the chain determines the quality. A cellphone typically has a really bad lens, and attaching some nifty add-on lens to it won't take away that weakest link. Nevertheless, I've seen cellphone pics of considerably better quality than those in this thread. Most modern cellphones can take much better pics than those presented here.

True. Especially the companies that have a camera branch as well as a mobile phone one, like Sony, tend to build quite decent optics into their phones. Certainly decent enough for mushroom identification suitability.

Taking pictures on a camera phone

This is not a bad link that Alan posted up in the photography tutorial.  I've generally not had too much trouble taking shots with my piece of crap old nokia when I've had nothing else available, they aren't amazing but they are decent enough.

Your guide has some great info on it too Koraks

My pic in pic of the month nomination was from a cell phone, although probably based more on the subject matter.

Check out some photo samples from the new Samsung Galaxy S II (the new model of mine), those photo's are awesome for a cell phone. The new Nokia's in particular have great lenses, and iPhones have good photo quality as well.

If everyone had phones like those we would have no more problems.

The problem is more people not really knowing how to use a camera properly than the actual camera quality.

lol, got on this morning and saw that there were 12 replies. I thought sweet somebody had to definitely know what they were, and then read all of these comments. But thanks anyway guys. I guess it doesn't really matter what they are, since they are not active.

They're just too difficult to identify based on the information we have. In the end, you decide if it matters if this mushroom gets identified, but I take it you're specifically looking for active species and you're not particularly interested in identifying this mushroom. That's perfectly alright btw.
