left cake in jar to long?
    #14432915 - 05/11/11 12:43 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

im doing my first cultivation right now and most things are going good. only problem is i left the cakes in the jars for a little to long, and there were long growths already coming out of a few of them. off of one of these growths came a very nice mushroom, but the lower half of the stalk looks much fluffier than the rest of it. so should i pull all of it off the cake or just break it off from where it looks like proper shroom? if i do take it all off is the fluffier looking part any good or should it be discarded immediately?

that one looks ready to harvest. rolling in verm could have caused the other ones to abort. the fluffy part is still good. i wouldnt be concerned about it. these things happen due to the humidity and FAE in certain conditions. it isnt a contam tho. the only thing to be wary of at this point are any weird colors (other than normal bruising).

The whole thing looks good to me I would eat it but you may want to wait for more experinced growers then myself.

for sure. i am not sure if the jars were left for too long from carelessness or just not knowing when to take it out, but if its the latter i have some advice.

cakes are done when you can see condensation on the inside of the jar and hte cake is pulling away. this is due to the fact that the cake shrinks after it is fully colonized since it is consuming itself. it loses mass and moves away from the sides of jars and due to the moisture condensation will appear. when this happens you know for sure your cake is done.

you got pretty far with this, just learn from your mistakes! and try a second flush with this one. dunk for 24 and give it another go and see if you can get something nice out of it.

This can sometimes even happen to cakes that havnt even finished the week consolidation. You get lucky and they just want to fruit.

But it does happen if you just leave them in the jar for too long. The first pinning trigger is full colinisation, and leave them long enough in a jar it will pin.

Just birth them and remove the fruit as normal and drunk it then put into fruiting
