My first hunt (advice needed)
    #14428674 - 05/10/11 07:49 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Hey there,
Long time shroomery viewer, first time account holder. lol

but just like to put out im beginning my first hunt tommorrow at a few local places. (eastern Melbourne)
and i was after some suggestions/advice.

im looking for none other than the lovely p.subs.
i have had a trip off them before, and done my research fairly well.
if i land a score on some finds ill defiantly do some id requests, so it be appreciated if anyone contributing to this could to that later thread as well!

but i was just wondering, im aiming for looking around some native trees for all the rotten wood and so fourth.
But is it wise to scruffle through the fallen leaves and debris?
coz im unsure if my hidden treasure can go unseen underneath the layer of leaves?

also:
my local parks are where im beginning, but density of the trees arnt over the top, is it worth looking through them?

ill have a rough estimate, but the first place ill search has no more than 50 trees scattered across a long line, and the second place would be about a 20m by 100m foresty type area.

are these worth a look?

please leave some comments,
cheers, -BananaPancake

I'm fairly new to this too. And not that great at hunting pyscedelics yet. But the few times I've found them (and generally this applies to any mushroom) they were in spots where the sun can't get full penetration to. So like (here in america) the north side of a tree or logg, big clumps of thick grass, and stuff like that. Think about whatever you're looking for and look for everything that fits that. For example I'm looking for ovoids, so I check cool wet medowy, and flood plain type areas near our rivers and larger streams (thanks to some advice I've nearly completely stopped looking around smaller streams).

Also look for any and all mushrooms, once you get good at spotting them, and learning where they are (regardless of the species, there are certain "Tendencies" that I think most people here will agree all mushrooms have in where they grow).

Any way, I hope you have better luck than me (that is to say none =(  )

My idea for hunting Subs in Tassie is to look around medium grassy areas that have eucalyptus trees about the place. and fairly old ones at that so they have had time to shed their bark and leaves.

Found a fair few growing on the outskirts of a patches of green grass that has a lining of trees next to it (incl eucalptus)

Yeh as soon as i see a eucalyptus, i imediatly look for fallen branches, leaves etc.
im just sticking to the native trees and looking in their vicinty.
