If dry, a long time. If you soaked without boiling, those fuckers will sprout. If they sprout, you are still okay. Just don't let it go too long before you PC. You can always PC again.

The sooner the better ! Same as with BRF cakes . But have waited up to two weeks before inocing AC'ed grains . But do not mix up grain with water and leave sitting around , it will sprout plants in no time at all , PC or AC ASAP .

Thanks a lot everyone!
The gains have been soaking overnight. He was thinking about taking the jars in there presently (read that you should leave them in there until ready to inoculate) and putting them into some other sort of container to keep dust etc off them whil he does the other batch of jars. What do you all suggest? A cooler? Rubbermaid? Should he sterilize it first?

Chilling them is good idea , but frezzing could lead to troubles , water expands when frozen , meaning grain could rupture .
