ID request Gulf Coast, Southern USA
    #14432069 - 05/10/11 09:31 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat: I found these mushrooms growing in mostly clay soil at the very edge of my flower bed. Three years ago I mixed some cow manure in this bed. I kind of missed the edges of this flower bed. It looked like these mushrooms were growing straight of the unmixed clay soil. I dug 7 or 8 inches below them and I could not see any mycelium.
Grills:  attached, beige color
Stem: approximately 2 inches long, ¼ of an inch in diameter, hollow, white color that turned light brown a few hours after they were picked
Cap: light brown. Kind of pointy like a liberty cap, approximately 1 inch diameter
Spore Print: beige to light brown
Bruising: light brown

Wow. I can hardly tell anything about the mushrooms with those photos. You really need to look up how to use macro mode for your camera.

Your mushrooms resemble Inocybes, from what little I can see. Inocybe has more poisonous species than any other genus, so don't eat them. Muscarine is very much not a good trip.

Happy mushrooming!

Sorry about the pictures. All I have is a crappy cellphone camera. Thanks for the input. I certainly will not be eating these mushrooms.I am curious as to how they got in my flower bed. I have never seen mushrooms in there before. In fact, I did not see any mushrooms anywhere near this bed. I will do some reading on Inocybes.
