Any ideas?

Less than 250F but close. That's the temp inside a PC at 15psi @ sea level.
I've had sprouts come up before in bulk grows with grains, but I'm willing to bet $20 they were in the coir. There's leaves, rocks, and all kinds of crap in coir blocks.

Haha, thanks man, I found a crazy site with lots of stuff like that on it. Too good to pass up. Now all I need is a new avatar since I retired kitten in the microwave...

Ok thanks. Just wondering because I prepared a batch of WBS and had to leave it to soak for 36 hours. Then rinsed and simmered but can't PC till tomorrow. Still worried that I may see roots by tomorrow.

When working with WBS (grains), the refrigerator is your friend.
If you have to wait for some reason, pop it in the frige.

Somewhere around 140ish will kill grain seeds (if exposed for a long enough duration.) Grain processed through compost piles or pasteurization are rendered sterile (as far as their ability to germinate.)
EDIT: I guess my point is that there isn't just one number - there is going to be a number at which that temperature will instantly kill the seed, but there are a lot of temperatures that the grain can be exposed to for a certain amount of time that would do the same.

If you rinse the grains and begin the soak in scalding hot tap water, they won't germinate. Since you simmered yours, there's no way they can germinate. They can get rancid if you don't PC soon, but they won't germinate and grow roots. RR
