First DMT Experience (Sub-breakthrough)

Dimethyltryptamine (First experience – March 19, 2011 – Approx 3:00 am) Non-breakthrough
I obtained 100mg of the yellow-ish product of a DMT extraction. With my girlfriend, I smoked a small bowl of cannabis to create a bed of ashes to put the DMT on. They were sucked through the glass bowl so I put down a small layer of weed, the DMT, and then a small layer of more cannabis. I made an attempt to increase the surface area of the DMT by chopping it up. There was approximately 40mg in the bowl. I prepared to take my hit. My plan was to take the first hit and then walk to a bed to take the final two hits that I was planning on taking (I wanted to exhale some of the smoke in another room to prevent a long-lasting odor).
I held the lighter above the bowl to combust some of the cannabis on top. I did this again hoping to vaporize the DMT. As I inhaled I couldn't really feel the smoke. It seems to numb my lungs a bit so I didn't know how much I inhaled. As I exhaled I blew out the bowl because I unknowingly surpassed my practical lung capacity. During the exhale everything in my perception began to zoom out and the pitch of everything rose. I handed the bowl to my girlfriend and she said “What?”. I said, “I'm tripping, I have to go!” So I exited the room, running. As I entered the main room of my basement everything was moving and swirling in fractal patterns. I layed down in the bed, still holding my lighter and I pulled the covers around me.
At first the feeling and the experience was unsettling. I expected this. I felt a pressure all around me and I got the symptom of not being able to tell I was breathing that is common. I opened my eyes and looked at everything around me transforming in intricate patterns. I saw my girlfriend, her face was distorted. I distinctly remember everything taking up the shape of waves slowly moving back and forth. I told my girlfriend to make sure I was breathing and she said I was. I began to enjoy the experience more at this point. My friend said it felt like a deep meditation. I agree with this. My body and mind felt very pleasant and at peace. I was basking in an unexplainable force that seemed to connect everything in the universe.
I had little connection to my physical surroundings it seems. I couldn't feel that I was holding a lighter or wrapped in covers until toward the end of the trip. As I closed my eyes I saw a dark green veil of light dropping over my “vision.” A voice said “Let it envelope.” But this voice was not very clear or audible. It was like a thought that was implanted in my mind. I remember trying to be very open and not resist at all. It felt good to do so. I moved around, smiling under the covers. I felt very peaceful.
Then the strong effects seemed to disappear. I jumped out of the bed and declared that it was amazing though I didn't break through. I was still getting visuals and I would continue to have very mild visuals the entire day. Right after the experience I was shaking because it felt like there was still a lot of information going though my mind that I couldn't “decode.”
DMT is great.

lol you tried to smoke then move. Once you trust that your body will be fine when you are gone it releases a bit of the worry.

How much did the trip last?
The main part of the trip lasted about 10-15 minutes in this particular experience. My shortest experience was 8 minutes, but there are always after-effects (minor visuals, a "different" feeling) that can last up to an hour. It has been a little different for me every time. After my first trip I had residual visuals for the entire next day, but they went away.
