VERY NICE!!!
I have a syringe of these chillin now. I am very interested in the tub/tray. Did you have perlite in the tub under the tray? If so how deep? What was the sub depth of the tray?

Nice job ProfP
Do you know the reason that some of them, especially the ones in the bags are splitting their stypes almost like one side of it grew more than the other? Like the one on the right of the second big pic in the bagz fruiting section.
Is this common in pans?

No perlite, Just the casing tray. Between the casing and the ~2inch deep substrate beneath there is plenty of moisture retention,

No, I have never seen it happen the few times I have grown them. I have only ever grown them in casings. My theory would be the fact that the fruit was too top heavy. I would also suspect the bag had something to do with it. The bags are actually just starting to get going which will give me something to update the thread with.
Pans have a crazy cap to stem ratio....... Its a bit ridiculous.

You don't even want to know Ozz,
I started the write up last night, and went to finish it after I was done working today.
I got from the bag pinning from the first flush all the way to the middle of the 2nd flush and my
browser crashed!
I had to start half way back to where I left off last night.
Needless to say I saved my work more frequently on the next attempt, .....

We don't have a limit but if you try and upload too many at once it bumps you out and doesn't save them..... You wind up having to re-up all the lost ones. I think thats what Ozzy was talking about?
Just for future reference.

I usually just upload 20 pics or less so that it doesn't do that, or you could calculate the MB by adding each pic size on a calculator as you add the pics. Yeah I know what you were talking about now, I used to hate that until I started uploading about 20 pics at a time.

Wonderful!!!! Now for the noob questions... yeah someone had to... The hole dimensions I assume are from the bottoms of the holes-sides 6" from bottom of tub to bottom of hole? Also did you mist and fan until pinning and then fan only? Just curious from what little I've read on the habits of this type of mushroom. And I read also they seem to be quite finicky when it comes to temperature.

Yea, that is the bottom center of the holes. I only apply a heavy misting in between flushes. Just to the point where it will begin to pool, but not allowing pooling to occur. No fanning.

Thanks.
Temps = mid 70's, they contaminate pretty easily so I try to stay out of the 80's with them.
The casing and monotub style set up provides all the humidity they need. I actually go pretty light on the stuffing and try to stay in the upper 80's in that department. They like 85% RH.

Yup, for 1 day. then the lights came on.
Yea, hence the name "GOLIATH"......

conformist said: Awesome grow and great pictures! I especially like the print. Would you elaborate on how you made it?
For the print I just lightly misted the inside of a pyrex pan (no pun intended) and laid it over the foil in front of my flowhood. Once the lid was on I turned off the hood and came back 24 hours later. The small amount of moisture on the pan allows the cap to continue to sporulate onto the foil.
To everyone else
Thank very much for all of your nice comments!

Have you chowed down on any of them, yet?
Do you think that cambo goliaths are on par (potency) with cyanescens, cambo regs, or whatever else?

its just whatever is available to the grower.
for most people gypsum ends up being their most expensive item.
so rather than put the extra effort to get some cheaper. theyll just use the stuff they can find in the garden section

Well, for the casing I don't like the pellets because they tend to clump up so I use ground gypsum. For the actual substrate recipe I just leave it pelleted. It breaks down when you pasteurize it anyway so it doesn't matter for that part of the process. The gypsum I get comes pelleted, 100 pounds at a time at the local farmer supply. I just ground what I needed to make the casing for the grow.

So far, I have gotten this bag, from Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202311920/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
40 lbs, not pelleted, intended for garden use, for $4.
I am only 10% into my second bag at this point.
Good luck,

Killer grow, Prof! Gorgeous pics, too. Those Goliaths put out some giant caps for sure!
I like those trays, might have to look into getting a few. I had been using the black, plastic 9x12" Glad Ovenware trays for copes, but those Jiffy trays have a much nicer surface area. How deep are they?

They don't carry it in powdered form where I am from There is A LOT OF AGRICULTURE in my area, and due to that they just sell it at the garden centers and farmer supply in pelleted form. They are about the size of a BB or a pellet so it ain't no thang, They just melt into the recipe
I wish they carried powdered gypsum around here though, that would be sweet.

Thnx!
They are 2.5 inches deep, which is perfect for such species
You can find them at Home Depot or Walmart..... I think walmart is evil though so I try to stay away if possible, but I do admit to getting the one for the grow there b/c the Home Depot was sold out at the time.

Yea, they look cool as hell when they do that. As soon as I picked that fruit it bruised violently!
I crumbled everything in my garden and it has been raining for a couple days and been very humid here.... Hopefully I get a nice outdoor fruit or two to post a pic of as well,
They are very far from home so to speak, which leaves it a bit on the debatable side???????????

Beautiful! Was this a multispore or did you isolate on agar? Once again this is friggin' bangin' mang. I'm gonna try Goliath multispore inoculation of grain spawned to hpoo monotubs! I'm kind of reluctant to try isolating cause i have no idea what qualities to isolate for.

Thanx!
It was an iso I took from an MS plate off agar. The plate was made from an old print I had that came from a friend a couple years ago. I then transferred it to one more plate to get rid of the fuzzy myc that was on the original plate and went to rye with it from the second transfer....
You still want to look for Rhizo's but they are a little more thread like rather than the rope like appearance the cube myc has.
You should get some pretty nice results from MS though, Just make sure to only use a small amount of spore solution per jar. You will find they grow really fast so that is a big plus.
You can clone from there, or take prints and go to agar with them.
Either way good luck man, and keep me posted on your progress!
I love to grow Pans, I don't even eat them, they are just soooo pretty and fun to photograph I can't resist..........

Hey, I grew this same strain. and did not tripp at all. i ate an 8th. what do you think is the reason ? i yanked them out of the trays and left them on a piece of cardboard to dry . simply air dry. i did not use a fan. after they were dried i ate them.

An 1/8th? Wow. I have not eaten these myself, but am told that they compete with PE in potency. 3.5 grams of PE is enough to blow minds.
Something odd here.
Good luck,

You could have been given an inactive pan print.
That would be my best guess.
There is no way you ate and 1/8 of these without feeling anything,
Even if you were mushroom tolerant you would feel something.
My guess is you aren't though not too many people are.
I bet if you ate an 1/8 of these you'd be begging the devil to stop ripping your skin off.
That is about how strong they are.

That is about how strong they are.
That's what I was waiting to hear!!! How do the Big Island Pans compare to these. I'm sure they are quite a bit smaller.

"I bet if you ate an 1/8 of these you'd be begging the devil to stop ripping your skin off."
This is what I tried to explain! ...but real experience is better absorbed by others.
..definitely something odd.

Awesome grow and awesome picture as always ProfPin. While I take the pleasure of surfing through your mountain of beautiful pictures, I cant help but think to myself....Uploading and pasting all those pictures probably took you more time then growing the mushrooms!!! hahahaha. Anywho I appreciate the effort, and love the pics and the grow, keep it up man. Looks like AMU has some work to do, to catch up to the IRF hahaha. One day my dream will come true and the IRF and AMU will have a shroomery off. Shroomery off!! Shroomery off!!! Thanks again for posting the grow it was fun to watch.

awesome!! the only thing that worries me, is that my lab gets in the low to mid 80's at times maybe i will wait for colder weather; I read how you said that they contaminate easily in temp's higer than 80..so i gotta be carefull,, so i just run the same proceedure as cubies, except thinner substrate and requires a casing?? well, i case all my tubs anyways, so that wont be anything i cant handle.. im just so excited that these are some of the most potent pan. strain known.. im curious about nibbling on a stem or two, lol hey prof, ive got a question about one of my tubs,,this is the first time this has happened to me; after the tub was 100% colonized, i noticed very PUFFY cottony blobs growing on the surface of the sub, and sure enough, when i cased it, those blobs did the same thing on the casing..so, ive got blotches of puffy mycelium here and there in one tub.. my others have never done that, i wonder if its cause i mixed 2 different GT genetics to make that tub.. ?? should i scrape that stuff with a fork? i also screwed up by leaving the lid slightly open one day, and all those big blotches of PUFF started turning yellow,, so ive been misting the shit out of it, to get they yellow coloration to turn white again, but no luck so far.. any advice on that ??

Yea, also make sure the casing is ~1/4 inch.

Scraping is bad,
Don't scrape ever.

Misting won't remove the yellow. That color is caused by the mycelium producing metabolites (antibiodics) which is more than likely due to the fact that you left the lid off and some bacteria made its way into the tub.
Just let it be. Over misting isn't going to solve the problem.
