Home made dehydrator (PVC pipe, computer fan, tupperware with tray and holes in bottom)

I used a 35 watt lightbulb wrapped mostly in aluminum foil as close as I could get it to the metal end on light. The light fixture I used is one of the clip on type and has pre drilled ven holes in the back, so I just drilled the same amount of holes in the bottom of tupperware. It dries a small amount of shrooms in around 8-10 hours, and with the fan at max speed the light fixture just barely gets warm.
I have a question that has been asked a thousand times but I have never seen a TC answer it. I tried to dry shrooms in my oven on 150F with a fan blowing on it but with the door open and fan on the heat element on my oven just stays on and keeps getting hotter. I have seen a bunch of people say that heat doesn't affect potency but I beg to differ because the ones I tried to dry in the oven almost immediately started bleeding blue and went limp and rubbery. I immediately panicked and moved them back to the box fan and finished drying them on the fan. They were no where near as potent than some from the same tub that were fan dried with no heat.
Q: What is the maximum amount of heat and time held at that heat is recommended for drying, and since my home made dehydrator lets through just a little bit of light through the foil will that take away in potency also?
Here is my ghetto set up. LOL I have not yet tested the potency, but I have dried almost an ounce with it so far, it only blows out warm air, should I use it, test them out against some fan dried, or should I go back to just the fan for a for sure no potency loss way to dry?

I had this stuff laying around and I was bored, and it is so humid here that it takes over 48 hours on my fan to dry enough for the desiccant. I was just trying to make something that wouldn't heat up too much and would dry them quickly, and it works!

Heat doesn't affect potency, but only to a point. When they start bruising heavily (dark blue/purple/black), you've hit the point where it's too hot. I had the same experience with an oven (think we talked about this in a previous thread.) Many ovens set to a temperature don't maintain that temperature throughout the heating cycle - 150*F is just an average, and it can cycle and swing above/below that quite easily, especially if the door is open and the thermistor isn't getting accurate and consistent readings.
If you took those same mushrooms and put them in a Nesco set to 150*F, you should not experience anywhere near the amount of bluing/brusing.
As long as it works, I definitely applaud your ingenuity for using what you've got. It seems to me like that would work just fine.

Much simpler and more effective way is to just bite the bullet- You can get a Nesco dehydrator at Amazon.com for under $100. Put your stuff in the rack, set the temp and go to bed. Get up in the morning, and Whallah! Dried ! Also temp btween 95 and 100 max is all you need and nop potency issues.

Thanks! Do the nesco dehydrators have a temp setting?

The good ones do. The two of mine go from 95F - 155F and 95F - 160F.
