Hallucinogenic species in Switzerland:
Psilocybe semilanceata Psilocybe cyanescens Panaeolus cinctulus Pluteus salicinus Inocybe aeruginascens (rare species) Inocybe calamistrata (hallucinogenic and toxic, causing nausea, do not eat them) Inocybe corydalina Inocybe haemacta Gymnopilus purpuratus (introduced, non-native to Switzerland) Mycena cyanorrhiza (hallucinogenic and toxic, causing nausea, do not eat them) Panaeolus cyanescens (grows only in the southern parts of Switzerland, because of the mediterranean climate)
Psilocybe semilanceata is the most frequent active species in Switzerland. It grows everywhere on pastures between 600 m and 1700 m (1970 ft. - 5270 ft.) but not on the plains. The highest situated finding place was 2167 m (7109 ft.)

Thanks. Obviously Ovoids prefer higher temperatures than Psilocybe cyanescens. The first pins appeared when the temps were around 24 ° C ( 75 ° F ).

Thanks! They grow quite slowly. Last night the temperature was very low, near freezing.

Wow this is great news indeed, thought it strange when discouraged from PS. Ovoideocystidiata being a candidate for UK naturalisation. Heard mention of (and started to see ) VERY aggressive colinisation of woodchips so seemed like it wouldn't be a problem, but it was pointed out that they spread via flood waters onto washed up debris in their natural habitat.
On another note, is 'Bio-Invasion' not a problem? -I would strongly think not as no mycelium is going to overpower a whole forest and afterall these fungi are natures cleanup agents.
-However I have seen a couple of mentions of concerns over species introduction in the archives and wondered if there was any basis to or evidence of this hypothesis?

I think a cold weather species like Psilocybe cyanescens would be the better choice.

Yes, Ps. ovoideocystidiata is a very aggressive colonizer and fruiter and it thrives on wood chips.
I think introducing another wood-decaying fungi to the UK is not a problem. There are already other introduced alien species in the UK growing on woody debris and they don't cause any damage:
http://www.fungi4schools.org/Reprints/Mycologist_articles/Post-16/Biodiversity/FM02pp006-011aliens.pdf
A much bigger problem are introduced plant species like Heracleum mantegazzianum (giant hogweed).

Abso-freakin-lutely FANTASTIC work Sporulator, I envy your patch...

(EDIT: sporulator - why is your up close shot so well exposed and clear, while the picture which captures the entire patch in all it's glory [that I would love to nominate for POTM] is underexposed and kinda looks shot through a tube? You should try and get a better picture of the whole patch! )

The patch is huge and it's a very dark place. If I go closer, I can't picture the whole patch. I had to use ISO 1250 and flash.
Tomorrow I will take more photos.
