It's been keeping me alive lately, all I want to do is board.

Who else boards? What do you ride? I rock a Loaded Dervish, Bear 852s, o'tang stimulus 83a's and bonez reds.

if i tried that i probably wouldn't have a face.

i tried bombing this HUGE hill, probably decends 120ft in like 200ft., literally a damn near 45 degree angle, probably more like 40 though. rode for less than 5 seconds before i bailed and ate shit. i suck at riding though so no surprise there.

my friend who's an awesome rider carved all 4 lanes of that mofo and had to turn into a 90 degree turn at the bottom.

I've got an old sector 9.  It's a little banged up.  The deck is slightly warped, and the trucks need to be cleaned.  But I'd be happy to trade/sell it to anyone that's interested.  PM me =)

I've also got an old element deck, it's one of the originals with the logo on the side and brand name beside it; green.  The trucks are shot on it and it could use some new grip tape, but I don't board anymore.

I've seen some narly wrecks on longboards.  It might just be me growing up, but I think a lot people have picked them up as a hobby in past 5 years, myself included.

It has definitely become more mainstream last few years, at least in my area. I have been an extreme sports person my whole life, so I like to switch it up. Right now I am loving long boarding. :feelsgoodman:

Longboarding is fun as hell, Theres a 55 mile long paved bike trail that literally goes through my back yard and its perfect for going on long cruises. Nothing better than smoking a joint while cruising around.

I ride a sector 9, which is kind of shitty, but I plan on getting a new board soon. Not sure what brand though...

why spend that much???

a longboard has particular dynamics that could be established pretty cheaply on the market, my recommendation is you get some nice wheels and go from there, I recommend ceramic bearings over stainless and other than that make sure you feel comfortable on what ever your standing on, have fun.

You can get one for less, but you're not exactly grabbing it off the shelf. You need to know a little about boards to be able to put together a good setup for cheap.

Learn about the wideness of trucks a good longboard could be between 170-220 mm

then there is bushings, higher durometer (Softness) for bigger hills

Then there is wheels, don't go too soft and stick around  80-90 (usually under), you know they are longboard wheels when they are bigger than skateboarding wheels just by looking at them

The board, just think safety at high speed, what would you rather be standing on.

Long story short, what it comes down to is how brave/insane you are, you don't need a death star to cruise around.

I have a friend who rides a sector nine 40something inch board he bought from zumiez for $150. He's hit 48mph on his own and 60 while skitching behind a truck. He can also bomb insane runs and pull off the basic slides.

Don't worry about cost. If anything just buy a used board. It's more about how much balls you have. He's beat another longboard buddie of mine withe a $350 board.

Now here is me in my earthwing superglider. Laying down some thane lines.

Looks like a hell of a lot of fun in the right setting and with the right precautions.  I can just see someone trying this on a popular downhill bike/hike trail and creaming a bunch of people.  Or trying this on a backroad somewhere and getting unlucky with an oncoming car.

I love the rush of doing something that could end painfully(been skydiving, mountain climbing, survival camping in negative temps, etc) but there's a difference between risky fun and just plain reckless. Stay safe and stay alive so you can go down the hill again.

My friend just started up his own longboard company, I forget what the prices are but they are pretty cheap and the board can be custom made to your specs. Technically every board he makes is custom, he mostly just does one-off stuff for people.

I can personally vouch for them being sick nasty boards...if anyone wants one, I *think* his prices are around $150 without trucks or wheels.  Just PM me.

I was just stating that there was a recent explosion of people longboarding and every single one has that set up. (that I know)

Never said it was bad to long board, just that its odd as to how many people have started and made it a fad.
