Coffee filters under jar lids?
    #1442586 - 04/09/03 12:36 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Anyone use coffee filters under their jars lids with success?

If not, what do you use?

Use Tyvek under the lid. It blocks contaminants and allows just the right amount of gas exchange. A coffee filter will let in contams and it tears easy.

If you can afford it, go to any mega office supply store and buy a bunch. They're cheap. If you really cannot afford to buy them, go to any Federal Express office and pick up a few. They're usually on a table near the door. Don't get greedy, two or three will do a lot of jars.

sourcing tyvek envelopes [Re: Diploid]
    #1443410 - 04/09/03 04:27 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

envelopes: in the UK, we don't have the same stuff you have in the US.

if i walk into a post office and ask for special envelopes, or tyvek, i just KNOW they're gonna raise eyebrows and i'll get nowhere. can someone post a really closeup pic of the envelope material, as we no doubt use it the same way you do, by another name. what you call lysol, we call dettol. your saran wrap is our clingfilm. your bush, our blair etc etc

I'm pretty sure I know what the stuff is. Cloth-like, hard to tear, etc.

I'm going to try and score some freebie tyvek from Mail Boxes, Etc.
