YOUR OPINIONS on a few Q's...plz

Hi all I've got a few questions (which I've already searched for) on the pf tek..
I'd like to hear peoples opinions on these q's
1) Does it help to dunk and/or cold shock cakes before the First flush?
2) Should the 1/2" or so of dry verm on the cakes be scraped off or left as is after birthing?
3) My understanding is to tape immediately after the innoculation period, remove tape after around 2 weeks and replace with a  coffee filter... any other suggestions? Also do cakes in incubation need any air exchange/fanning whatsoever?
4) If someone were to use an aquarium bubbler, should the intake air be somehow filtered before entering the fruiting chamber?

If some experienced bees would be so kind as to help out a newb, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks  :wink:

1) I dont, but others swear by it

2) I dont think it really matters just make sure it'll stand up stably

3) take the tape off after you see a fair amount of growth (50%?) no need for coffee filters thats what the dry verm is for (unless you want to be xtra specially careful) cakes in the incubator need fanning as much as possible with out removing too much moisture most people round here seem to do it 3/4 times a day

4)dont know on that one, I wouldnt have thought it was strictly necessary ( but again you may want to be rally careful)

fully colonised cakes are fairly resilient

You are on the right track totally and if you never have grown you are doing really well for a noob. Personally I would if I where you I would put the bubler in a small rubber maid with holes cut out and filter discs just to be on the safe side. If you need 3 or 4 filter discs to do so I can part with that, if so pm me and I will send them to ya to get you going. If thier is anything you need just ask.

1.  If they feel or look dry, yes.

2.  Scrape it off, and set the cake on fresh wet verm in upsidedown jar lids (or whatever)

3.  My advice is to take the tape off and flip the jars over after about 50%, no icubation fanning neccessary.
