Thinking about getting a new laptop...

So yeah, I'm probably gonna get a Mac... NOT!
Yeah, I want a new laptop, cos mine isn't that great at all But I'm not sure what...
So basically, I'm looking at a couple, not sure which to go for...
HP Pavilion dv6-3182ea which is roundabout £600
Intel® Core™ i5-460M Processor - 2.53 GHz (2.8 GHz max Turbo Frequency) - 2.5 GT/s DMI - 3 MB L3 Cache - Dual-core
- 4GB installed DDR3 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 Graphics (switchable with Intel HD graphics), - up to 2202 MB total graphics memory - 512 MB DDR3 dedicated
And then, a HP Pavilion dv6-3180ea, which is about £750
Intel Core i7-720QM Processor 1.6 GHz, Level 3 cache 6 MB
Memory 4 GB DDR3
Video ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics, up to 2714 MB total graphics memory with 1 GB DDR3 dedicated
Basically, I'd like to know which would be better. I'd imagine that the i7-720QM processor would be better, but I've read that it isn't entirely better, it just heats up a lot and doesn't have a lot of battery life. And I guess that the second laptop's graphics card is better, but I'm not sure if the 1GB one is necessary for my needs. I'd like to be able to play games on it reasonably nicely (my current one struggles with Age of Empires 3), but I don't expect to be able to play Crysis 2 on a laptop of those quality. If I can play games that are a couple years older, like maybe Oblivion quality and below. So games from 3/4+ years ago.
If anyone can give me any advice, or other reccomendations, that would be cool. I don't really want to spend more than £800, and I know I'm not going to get an amazing gaming laptop for that, but like I said, I don't want to play the latest games.

Make sure you have a decent warranty whatever you get, if you burn out that integrated GPU you're boned. You have a lot to choose these days in that price range for your needs though, i'm running a rig from 2008 with a 512mb Nvidia 8600M GT with a dual core 2.5gHz processor and 4 gigs of ram and I can play Oblivion, Fallout, etcetera with no problems. I even mess with contemporary games, though with mixed results.

So it sounds like that first one would be good enough? Would the i7 processor and 1GB graphics card be worth the extra money?

I have a brand new dv6 something another. It took a minute to get all my hardware to work with linux. I never even let windows 7 boot the first time
I dunno, its a sore spot for me. I'm still pretty pissy because laptops dont come with parallel ports anymore, fuckers.

my hp compaq 6735s bought like 2/3 years ago for £359
2.10 Ghz amd turion dual core
4GB RAM (only 3 GB recognized by vista so 1gig is sat in there doing fuck all! )
ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics board. wifi bluetooth camera card-reader AND! LightScribe
It played Morrowind pretty easy, and had Fallout 3 running fine. Cs source, HL2, portal all Fine. Also got Cubase 5 and reason working on it.
struggled with Dragon Age: origins even on the lowest graphical settings but was still just about playable,
The Whitcher Enhanced Edition is where it started failing at games.
pretty decent machine apart from the vista

Ok, so I might go for the first one then. Unless anyone sees a glaring reason not to?

Macs suck ass.
Fanbois that know nothing about computers and blindly buy whatever has the flashiest marketing gimmick.

Shroomism, you're involved with computer tech stuff aren't you? Out of those two, which do you think would be better suited?

He states explicitly in the OP that he wants to play games. Buying a Mac to play games is like buying a lawnmower to commute to work on.
Have fun with your locked down version of Unix and lack of video drivers. Enjoy your Apple computer while it's still their newest model because when it becomes obsolete they will offer you no support or replacement hardware whatsoever. They don't even teach their employees how the old version worked. Macs are not impervious to viruses, no one has bothered to write any for them because even today with the burgeoning popularity of Apple products they represent a tiny fraction of computer usage worldwide (because they're marketed squarely towards trust fund babies and technologically illiterate hipsters + laughably overpriced for their capabilities) If you don't know enough about computers in 2011 to properly protect yourself from malware you should probably stick to a speak'n'spell or something. You don't even have to buy that protection for W7, a perfectly capable, minimalist antivirus suite comes preinstalled.

Well, I've just found this one, which seems pretty sick, wondered what your guys opinions on it...
It's an Xplorer X6-7300, they're not a big brand or anything, but like an independent gaming pc and laptop company, some of their stuff is pretty cool. This one costs around £750.
Specs of it are:
Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM Mobile Processor 2.00 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache, Max Turbo Freq. 2.80 GHz
8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-1333 SODIMM Memory
NVIDIA GT 540M 1GB PCIe Video
500GB 7200RPM SATA300 HARD DRIVE
And it comes with a free copy of Total War: Shogun 2 which is a nice bonus
