Are my jars too fluffy?
    #14423138 - 05/09/11 04:23 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I made my first monotub and had my first flush of PE. I then immediately cut off the stumps blended them with water and injected them into sterilized WBS. They showed growth in 3 days and have grown very fast:D
I know that mycelium is fluffy, but I had cobweb once before and I'm wandering if this is too fluffy...just my paranoia?

You paint a picture and each small feature contains to your mind another painting just as large trying to expand free. Each its own full painting of unique inspiration&style. You look closer and it is made up of just as unique and wide span of sub-features bursting with potential to become paintings themselves.
The brain has this potential but also has constant surpression so that you can concentrate. But with such scope of creation how can any rigid morality produce a fair and unchained future. Religion will dissipate with time, rejoice in entropy

that doesnt sound like a very sterile method of making up a liquid culture.

Fruits are in no way sterile and if you just took mushroom tissue, blended it into sterile water, you would have created a contaminated liquid culture.

Remember the fruiting process is never sterile, lots of contams floating about and probably all over you fruits too. The only way to get a clean culture is by splitting a fruit in half and then using a flame sterilised scalpel take a small piece of tissue from the centre, and using that to start a liquid culture, but even then it could still go wrong.

shake your jars, that should let you know wether you have mold mycelium or mushroom mycelium.

its not grey enough to be cobweb. And if it was cobweb i would have expected it to have colinised pretty much most of that substrate.

too early to tell, but based on the method used i dont have high hopes.

I'd just let it go a little further and watch out for green or signs of bacteria.

mycelium water made straight from fruits is generaly better for starting outdoor patches as nature has its own way of beating the nasties

Just an update: 50% mush 50% evil :frown:
Smells like rotting fruit...I read somewhere else that's a sign of badness.
Plus you can see lots of clear grey now. Thanks for the help guys.

The reason I forgot to take from the core of a shroom was I was still so exited after my first monotub flush...lesson learned
...but good news my second flush after my first dunk (ever I thought I'd ruined it:P) Is popping up  so yay me second chance:dancer:
