Hey guys, I've just gotten into mushroom hunting(it's been raining a sh1tload), but I'm finding a lot of mushrooms around that are very similar to the psilocybe types growing in my area. I've just got some pics here, if it isn't two much to ask, would anyone be able to give me some names?
I'm situated in chch, NZ.
How good did you guys find the "which shrooms grow in my area" list? I've been seeing pictures of shrooms not on that list that people have said are psychadelic, are there a lot more than whats on that list? Also, any tips for a starting shroomer will be appreciated. thanks

You should read the stickied thread about identification requests - it gives you some details about what information to provide to make it easy for us.
Also, why on earth are you using gloves and pliers to hold a mushroom? There's no mushroom in the world that is dangerous to touch.

yeah I used to, and still do(occasionally), lots of work with chemistry and pyrotechnics. As you can imagine, I dealt with a lot of very toxic compounds, so I just think better safe than sorry. I did pick them without gloves though.
On the list that's here at the shroomery, which ones are the most common around NZ? I'm hoping to get a few good ones then do some spore prints and maybe some cultivation. It's a lot more discreet than marijuana plants.
Are there many hundreds of psychedelic mushrooms here in NZ that haven't been identified? or have they all been documented?
I never used to like rain; now I look forward to it ^______^

yeah, but it's very, very annoying not knowing what any of them are! All the libraries near me are closed b/c of civil defence using them (from recent earthquakes, and I can't get any books on NZ mushrooms
I have identified the hygrocybe conica specimen, sadly not psychadelic...
Can't believe how similar they look sometimes, it's really hard to sort them.
These two mushrooms I have here; the first I found out around the local park, there weren't many of them, and some other shroomers I saw around said that they were psychedelic. The second seems to be around a lot, if anyone is familiar with that one, that'd be great as well.

the last shroom looks like a psilocybe cyanescen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hygro_cyan_1.jpg) as according to this pic, but im not 100% sure.

They are wrong. If they are that far off they'll be in hospital very soon. Nice of them to pass on dangerous info though. Google "Galerina" because that looks way more like a magic mushroom, and it's fucking deadly. It also grows IN magic mushrooms patches too. If you don't shit your pants about that, you will after you've eaten one.
Did you read the thread I posted??? It's the NZ magic mushroom 2011 thread, have a look in there and tell me if you can find a magic mushroom with a stem that fat. You are not looking for Psilocybe cyanescens, in NZ we don't even have that species, but we have something similar - Psilocybe subaeruginosa. First up - do you see any blue bruising on any of the specimens? No - then throw them out. Although it would be nice to see the stem of the middle one, but it's more likely to be deadly than magic.
Read through the NZ thread. Read through the NZ thread. Read through the older NZ thread. Every page.

Ok, I went out with a mate just now, and I am 98% sure that what I have is a psilocybe subaeruginosa. There is prolific blue staining on the bruised areas as well.
can someone just give another opinion before I noms down on them I've found a small patch behind a fence, which is really nicely sheltered. The larger specimens have a creamy gill colour. I'd like to take a spore print, but im not seeing any spores rub off on my fingers. Are they going to be that visible? Dusty like puffball spores?

that looks alot like a sub to me,
if you are taking a spore print get some foil or white card/paper detach the stem from the cap and put your cap gills down on the foil/paper/card and let it sit over night.
If you use foil make sure u use the non shiny side, makes it easier to see the spores.

sweet as, thanks for all the advice guys. I'm really keen to make a culture and start growing these beautiful subaeruginosa, but the gills haven't really opened up yet... will they have developed enough on the pictured shroom?

LOLWUT? What do you think how spore prints are done? Rubbing your thumb over the gills and then making a finger print? You cut off the cap as close to the top as you can without damaging the gills. Then you place the cap on a piece of aluminum foil, gills down. Cover the cap with a cup or glass, so as little moisture as possible can escape. Remove cup/glass about 6-12 hours later. Gently remove the cap (using a needle or toothpick is a good idea). Now you have a spore print on the foil.

I must say, Germankahuna, your jesting is utterly hilarious. I am awestruck that an individual such as yourself has so many gifts! A brilliant orator and mycologist as well! You must surely surpass everyone's expectations time and time again.
This here look kinda like a subaeruginosa, but the beautiful blending observed on the top of the cap of the subaeruginosa is less prevalent here... it does bruise blue though, and the spores are a dark blue or brown. I dont think any of you truly appreciate how much I want to make this variety into a wonderful omelette x3. Suggestions as to what it is?
I have just looked at some pictures of the galerina... are the varities in New Zealand as toxic as in other countries? do any of them stain blue?

I'm still trying to figure out what these are classified as a class A drug...
