Who is your favorite writer?
    #14421769 - 05/08/11 08:56 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I am taking summer semester off, so I will actually have the time to read a few books I WANT TO READ instead of BEING MADE TO READ.

It is impossible for me to decide a particular favorite among this list, but here are my favorite authors/writers.

Hemingway, Wilde, Vonnegut, Ginsberg, and Whitman.

Who is/are your favorite author(s)?

please also give me your favorite publication(s) by them  and if you have the time a very short synopsis of the book(s) stated... I would really like to broaden my horizons, so make them good! :-D

But my favorite books so far are

- The Shack - BY william paul young

and

- The Giver - BY lois lowry

If you want something that is the television of reading (entertaining but meaningless), I'd check out Christopher Moore. One good one from him is "Island of the Sequinned Love Nun" which deals with a degenerate pilot that fucks it all up and finds himself in the pacific islands dealing with cannibals and shady doctors.

For slightly more thought-provoking but still entertaining stuff, I'd go with Tom Robbins. "Half Asleep In Frog Pajamas" might tickle your interest if you're into entheogens. It deals with a stock broker who runs into a man in tune with alien intelligences from Sirius.  Still wicked funny.

Finally, Tim Powers. Just read "The Anubis Gates." It's a book that makes all other time travel novels seem like a waste of time.

Castaneda

people have some weird opinions of castaneda but if you read journey to ixtlan and tales of power you are lying to yourself or completely missed the point if they are not deeply relevant

I really have been liking Stephen King's stuff lately. The Dark Tower Series was fantastic, and I am just reading The Shining right now and it keep getting better.

My body I will give to pleasures,

any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

One of my favorite books is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Absolutely fantastic novel about a society who burns books, subsequently censoring ideas that contradict with the shallow nature of said society in order to make the people "happy."

Nathaniel Hawthorne is great if you feel like going in deep. I've done quite extensive research and analysis on his works. I've only ever read his short stories. Young Goodman Brown is one of my favs about a man who battles with hidden sin inherent within every person, even his devout Puritan religious community. Very cool. He features lots of similar themes in most of his stories that delves into the psychological, good/evil, sin, etc. Rappacini's Daughter, The Birthmark, My Kinsman, Major Molineaux, etc.

There are so many great writers and books out there. It's very easy to get overwhelmed. So little time... *sigh*
