Certain posts and torture
#14421200 - 05/08/11 07:04 PM (12 years, 8 months ago) |

I contend that reading some of the convoluted 'deep-insight' type posts is the equivalent of literary water-boarding. Even though the reader has 'free-will' to look away, morbid curiosity makes one continue reading despite the mental pain of trying to follow the illogic and conclusion-jumping. It is like trying to turn away from watching a devastating car wreck.
And then my head hurts!
Where is the Geneva Convention when you need it?

Some of the older posts here were real mind-benders (like 6-8 years ago) and many of the worst offenders shifted over to M&P where they still indulge in literary water-boarding with regularity.
Or you could go to AboveTopSecret on any given day if you don't mind risking your head exploding.

I guess this is where we differ. Usually when I realize it is a "deep insight" post within the first sentence, I stop reading and shake my head as to what the Philosophy forum has become.

I think these are they keywords: morbid curiosity. Sometimes it's probably just trying to see how far the stupidity goes.
Example:
"American president George Bush asked Brazilian president Fernando Cardoso if "Brazil has blacks, too". and you're
yet you know that enlightened mind will keep spreading it's wisdom and can't help to wonder what other pearls may come such as:
"We need to understand if you let kindling build up and there’s a lightning strike, you’re going get yourself a big fire." ~ George W. Bush, in a lame attempt to make deforestation look like a way to stop forest fires, 2002-08-22.

Bush was rather entertaining to watch. Fuck his semi-liberal fiscal policy.

You just perfectly described what it feels like to read guruu's posts.
