today, after i clear this place out and give her a good cleanin, im going to start my LC work..im going to be using one jar of pure vanilla\water and another of pancake syrup and water..Ive heard that vanilla works awesome from a few different people..and someone mentioned that he had great success with syrup..one question tho..how do i store these? ones in a pint jar, the other is gonna be in a plastic tupperware for left overs i do believe..

LC
And how is this an experiment, what premise is being tested?

i guess its a personal experience doc. see what works best for him.
but yea its not really proving anything in the community
lc are very contam prone, and its hard to see if they are bad until after you make jars. so id say try some agar work. that will really give you a better understanding of how mycelium grows and will also give you a great means to start jars quickly
with agar you can clone and isolate strains of from your spores which will really help you with the quality of your grow.
lc is just a shortcut and can sometimes just be a waste of time

totally agree that lc sucks. as a noob just wasted a lot of time trying to innoc bulk sawdust. not a one grew (out of about 30). couldnt even grow trich.
in grains they grew every time,...the trich that is.
I would suggest glc and h2o2 agar.

Hey jremines, I've been rethinking that even if lc sucks for me maybe it works for you. When I look around the community i think 90% use lc (at some points) and most seem quite happy.
so go ahead and experiment. When I made it I found pure 4% Dex to be the best.
How will you sterilize the Tupperware?
You can check the archive for storing sugar lc. I use sterile water as storage so I have no experience with that. Good luck. dm

I have a question.
I just made two 500ml jars of LC using Agar's Tek of shooting sterile water into a 100% colonized WBS jar, and then extracting it with a 60cc syringe, back into the sterile water jar.
I did this via injector port.
Would this still qualify as a 'prone to contam' LC? Seems that Tek was garnering a lot of praise in the thread, so I tried it out.
It's sitting in the culture fridge now. Will be making WBS spawn bags tonight, and inoculating tomorrow.

i personally think of what you have made as myc (sterile) water, it is not a sugar lc, in fact it is not a culture at all because the myc becomes dormant in the sterile water
here something from wiki "Furthermore, the term culture is more generally used informally to refer to "selectively growing" a specific kind of microorganism in the lab.
A pure (or axenic) culture is a population of cells or multicellular organisms growing in the absence of other species or types. A pure culture may originate from a single cell or single organism, in which case the cells are genetic clones of one another."
sorry had to get that off my chest.
since you started with grain, if your grain was not contamed (which you of course checked) then as long as your syringe and tek were sterile, then the myc water is good to go and does NOT suffer the short comings of lc's.
I hereby move to rename glc as myc h2o since glc is a misnomer (plus i hate lc's), furthermore when you search for glc you end up with all that lc crap and hardly a thing about myc h2o.

^ How about Grain Mycelium Water?
Either way dude, this method rocks my socks! I did my first ever four spawn bags last Sunday, and inoculated with GMW (hehe).
I was starting to get worried, as I usually do (Patience Issues), and then all of a sudden this morn I see little white spots pokin' in all four bags.
And now that I have a total of 1000ml of GMW in my Fridge, I am one happy dude.

Ya the GMW really rocks. I've been reading a bit more and I'd like to thank AGAR for teaching me that there is crap LC (like mine), and then there is AGAR's LC (similar to a vanilla milkshake).
Also, I've learned that GLC or GMW evolves, here's how it goes:
Grain--Grain Spawn--Grain LC--GMW
So it was an LC briefly, until it consumes all the nutrients, then it is a stagnant storage culture (SSC).LOL
