so, lately i've been trying to do some bulk work with WBS but sometimes it doesnt work out. when it doesn't colonize or i see any signs of bacterial growth i throw them out. the odd thing is that i'll put the bird seed outside thinking animals will eat it. so far its been about 3-4 days and nothing has eaten even a little of the seed. i live next to a GIANT oak tree with tons of squirrels so this doesn't make much sense to me. does treating the birdseed make it unappealing to the birds/squirrels?
on a side note, is it possible to save grain, if it hasn't colonized but isn't contaminated? the other day i tried an experiment with around 4 pint jars to see if simmering for 20-25 minutes would give the right amount of water. if they dont work out do you think i could wait for it to dry, rinse it really well, soak it again, and PC?

just so i don't have to make another post, i started some azure's on WBS with MS and i was wondering if i could spawn them to hickory wood chips? from what i've read i also wouldn't see anything this year if i planted them outside, so if i kept them inside for a year under the right conditions and got the myc to be a pretty good size do you think i would get better results next year?

As far as the side note goes- you don't even even need to soak them again if you do a G2G or LC inoculation.
I've had jars not colonize from MS, but I do G2G transfers after all my jars colonize and grab up all the un-colonized jars along with the freshly PC'd jars and G2G them like they were fresh out the PC.
I have also inoculated the 'old' jars with LC with success. Yes, they may look dry to you but there is plenty of moisture contained within the grain, assuming you've prepped it correctly.
Now as far as using MS to inoculate old grain jars, IDK. In theory it would work, but I have never tried for fear of the grain drying out too much before 100% colonization.
So yeah, if you want to save grain (which is a good idea), include them in your next batch of G2G jars. However, don't try to re-soak them or the grains will become over-saturated and no good for inoculation of any kind.
As far as the treated WBS and azures go, I can't help there.

my 3 experiences with azurs. were failures, if haveing consistent problems with WBS use Rye grain instead its much more consistent, abd experience with cubes,,, and there are alot of pricks on here u will learn

We dont have to be, we GET to be.
I suggest you don't try to skimp and reuse failed/recooked wbs. It's on sale at menards for 8.99 for a forty pound bag. In my experience it's better to toss it and try again than recook it.
I also suggest you go to a non-simmer method of prep eventually. Just soak/dry off/pc. It's slightly trickier to get the moisture level just so, but once u master it, you'll never want to waste your time simmering again.

Fuck simmering i switched to a soak method about a year a go and i for sure do not fucking miss simmering those stupid fucking grains. just soak in a 5 gallon bucket from lowes and rinse that shit
no simmer grain prep fuck the additives just water and wbs

Say it brother man. Grain is so rich, why add anything to it but water.
To me it is just idiotic to rinse away a bunch of nutrients, toss in some inconsequential additives (coffee/gypsum), and then cook the grain followed by cooking the grain again at pressure.
Or you can listen to me and bob here, don't rinse away all the starch, don't add anything to it, and don't waste your time and electricity/gas cooking the shit twice in a row.
I've currently got my spawn down to 10 days. I could get it faster, but 10 days with minimal effort and no incubation is great in my book.
Wbs is rich and it is cheap and it's easier to prepare than people make it out to be.
