    #14414433 - 05/07/11 09:44 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Should the wbs smell a lil while pressure cooking or is my moisture content wrong? I soaked simmered n strained. Then strained n dryd lil with towel n paper towel

Smells like grain? Pretty normal.

Sounds like you got it right. You might save some work if you "steam dry" your wbs in a wire mesh strainer.

The smell of WBS while being sterilized doesn't denote moisture content correctness.  How long dis you soak your WBS for?

It's not uncommon for WBS to smell somewhat dirty because it's such a dirty seed mix to begin with.  Chances are, if you'r experiencing a rotting garbage smell, you'v soaked your grains for a too long and they'v fermented a little.  Not a cause for alarm, just be sure to thoroughly sterilize your grains before inoculating them.

Yeah, the smell of WBS cooking is why I don't use it, even though it's much cheaper than Rye berries.
