I remember reading something about honey preservation a while ago. I can't remember if it was dangerous or not, but I googled it quickly and came up with a couple of things:

"While it is sometimes rumored that the Aztecs stored their mushrooms in honey, there is debate as to whether honey will actually preserve the mushrooms. Jonathon Ott states that "embalming in honey is useless for preservation of mushrooms." [Jonathon Ott, Pharmacotheon (City: Publisher, 1993) Notes on Psilocybin Section.] While amateur experimentation has shown that it can be at least somewhat effective, it is not believed that the Aztecs actually employed this technique." -http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_faq.shtml

[Erowid Note: Storing fresh mushrooms in honey can lead to excess water in the honey, which can result in either rotting or fermenting. Caution should be excercised when ingesting fresh mushrooms stored in honey.]

Hey all.  Any idea how long a fresh tea will stay potent?? Do I have to freeze it or can I just put in the cupboard??

good point use common sense.

the fresher and more virgin the environment, the more safer the
subs will be to pick. A sexy trip for me begins with young good quality nice looking subs

Resist the allure of the tinfoil! Councils don't have secret mushroom squads patrolling the streets, set to seek and destroy random patches of Psilocybes

I bet if you dried them to a crisp and then made them into dust you could mix them with the honey and it would preserve very well. You just have to start with a small teaspoon to see how potent your honey is.

Few people do this, i'm pretty sure honey is an excellent preservative.
Shame I hate the taste of honey, otherwise I would try this as well.
I'm still trying to find a good way to preserve them other than drying and zip-locking..

I can confirm this tek does work, literally seeing the fruits of my labour from a mulched garden bed last season.
It also inoculated the neighbours garden bed as its on a slope so im going to try innoculating in buckets

I found my first subs! Woohoo! About 5 small patches all up, only picked a few to make sure they were subs. They are all quite small (not pins) and kind of dried. But after some good rain, I can see a lot of bigger ones coming up

To put my brother at ease, he wants me to ask some experienced people weather any poisonous or dangerous mushrooms bruise blue - mainly around Melbourne. I can't really get pics of these ones at the moment, but they look like subs, bruise blue and were in the right environment. I'm sure they are, but he still wants more opinions. I should be able to get a webcam pic a little later just to show

very nice patch horrie ! i love finding untouched and pristine sub patches like that with mature specimens standing at attention! the only thing that could be better was if they were nice and fresh and waterlogged the the carmel/brown silky caps
