Where you live

What are some things that you like about the place you live? I'm from LA and the list of things that I love about it is infinite. I moved to San Jose just to see what it's like living in a new city, and so far the bay area is super boring. The people up here talk all kinds of shit on LA, but they can't seem to name any great things about Northern California either.
So I want to know if there's anywhere worth moving to. Tell me, what is so great about your city?

I've been known to drink coffee on my porch while staring at the grand teton mountain range. It's breath taking if you stop to admire it.
If it weren't for all the red state religious nut jobs this would be a great place to live.

i love Philadelphia.
- i am centrally located in the northeast megalopolis so there is easy access to Washington DC, Baltimore, NYC, and Boston
- i am within (at most) 2 hours of the beach, woods, mountains
- i have access to any type of food you can possibly think of and it is always amazing
- there is always something going on
- the city is fairly reasonably priced
- Philadelphia is one of the most walkable cities in the country
- when you do need to use public transit it is very cheap, mostly convenient and fairly reliable
however
- both the summers and winters are pretty harsh
- weather can change at the drop of a hat with little notice
- people can be rude if you dont know how to handle them
- if you dont know how to drive everyone around you will let you know you dont belong on the road
- you need to run from one thing to another at the speed of light just to get by (i cant tell you the last time i drove under 45mph)
- car insurance is some of the highest in the country (esp if you decide to live in New Jersey)
- it is loud, polluted, over populated, violent, and drug infested (not always a good thing)
- it smells bad
i would like to live in another country within the next few years but i just really really love the northeast US.. there is a speed and aggression that you get used to. i honestly think, if you are really used to that, you kinda go a little insane if you ever try to leave. the quiet can be deafening.. i know it is for me if im out of the city for too long.

I like where I live. A river runs through the city just a block or two from downtown where our state capital is located. Great fly fishing and floats in the summer on the river. There are also a lots of parks and trails along the river. Easy access for hiking and mountain biking in the foothills. A small ski resort 30 minutes from town and a world class one just 3 hours from town. Its a college sports town with smurf turf. Located just an hour or two away from several amazing stretches of whitewater. Very easy access to the second largest wilderness area in the lower 48. Varying climates within easy reach. Portland, Reno, and SLC are within a days drive. Missoula, Seattle, and San Francisco are within a day and a half drive. The gorge is a day drive away.

Utah is where the party's at.
Some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world is just a 20 minute drive from my front door. Awesome mountains in all directions. The benefits of being in a larger city, without a lot of the big city problems you would encounter in other cities IE crime/Traffic. The Jazz fucking suck, but at least we have a professional sports team, it's still a good time to go to a game and get shwasted.
Unfortunately the majority of the population is LDS, I myself having been raised in the church. However that just means if you are part of the counter culture here, you are just that much cooler, and resilient to social, religious, and cultural bull shit.

I don't know what you're into, but I've lived in both parts of this state and much prefer northern california over southern. Though I do technically live outside of the bay area, it's a very short drive away.....Up here just seems fresher/cleaner, far less people, and the over all pace of things is slower & laid back. There are some cool people down in so-cal, and some of the land out in the deserts is beautiful....But that entire area as a whole could slide off into the ocean and I wouldn't give a damn.
Some things I like where I live?....My favorite aspect is the fact I can snowboard, wakeboard, and Surf damn near year round all in the same day/weekend. With the mountains, lakes and coast all being a short drive from each other this is possible, I don't know any other places in the world where you can do this.
-The endless amounts of outdoor activities, and the diverse climates/geographies of California. From deserts to old growth forests, we have it all. Yosemite is practically my backyard.
-Fantastic quality cannabis everywhere, and cheap. This goes for other drugs as well. You can smoke in public and no one will do a damn thing about it, the laws are relatively relaxed (max fine is $100 ticket for possession of up to an ounce)
-Every weekend there are underground/renegade parties all through out the bay area. There's a really good bass music scene. There are also festivals and camp outs damn near every weekend through out spring and summer in the northern California area.
*Downsides ....The particular town I live in is a shit hole, it's a dead end trap. Lots of ignorant trashy people. Gets a wee bit hot during the summer. Public transportation isn't that great. Jobs are very very scarce.
I really like the area I live in, just the town I live in I could do with out .

England knows how to party, I must say.
There are pockets of raunchy dance parties and clubbers in the states obviously, but it's almost guaranteed in the UK someone is holding a pocket full of party favors. They're prepared. Need to feed your house plant on a Friday night? They got you, dawg.
