Living in the City vs Small towns

What do you prefer and why? I feel like living in a city such as NYC would be tons of fun. I love going there. But I realize going there on vacation and living there are completely different.
Only problem with living there would be the high costs, am i right?
Part of me wants to live in the city, the other part of me wants to play it smart and just live in the southeast where life is pretty cheap.
what do you guys think

I prefer a small town, but not too small. Very small towns that are way out in the country are unreasonably lame.
I prefer to have a close tie with the outdoors, as well as a healthy dose of civilization. Corny as it sounds.

I live in a big city and the pollution, noise and overpopulation gets to me all the time. Relocating to a quiet suburb soon...
On the other hand, it's nice having plenty of restaurants and fun events around.

I'm the same, too many people and too much pollution and traffic is pretty lame but being close to somewhere like that has its benefits.

Move to Denver. Much cheaper than living in NY, the mountains are only a 15 min drive, and the city's pretty fucking awesome (in my opinion, anyways )

i cant handle small towns for very long. i am 100% a city person.
yes, the cost of living is higher but the way you actually live is different too.
you will not buy a 4br/2ba house with a front and back yard in a major metropolitan area.. if you do, you will be paying a shit load of money for it (assuming it exists at all). you have to downsize everything when you are living in such small spaces.
i would love a place like this:
and if anything.. i think that lady has too much junk. she could lose at least half of everything she owned and shed be fine.

I think the cost of living is cheaper in the city. That is why poor people have been moving to the city for hundreds of years.

Id much rather live in a small town. Cities have too much hustle and bustle for me. cool to visit, not to live in. No privacy. Cops everywhere.

The small town I came from had a much higher cop to citizen ratio than the city I now live in. I'd see like 5 cops a day then, now like 1 a week

It depends on where you are. In the suburbs and many areas around town the cops patrol all the time...you see several on your drive during the day. They come up and hassle me if I am loitering somewhere.
In the country I smoked with the sheriff, the cop just parked his car in the middle of town and went to the bar and there were only 2-3 cops on the entire force. they made their money by busting out of towners for speeding through.

I like living in the suburbs where I can drive for a bit and be in the outdoors, and drive for a bit and be in the city.
It's pretty much perfect.

i cant tell you the last time i saw a cop doing anything in Philadelphia. i think the police are a LOT easier to deal with in the city than suburbs/small towns.
in small towns they have nothing better to do.. in a giant city there is too much going on at all times.. they cant keep on top of everything and most times ignore whatever is going on.
it always shocks me when i hear people talking about "big city" or whatever.. i was hanging out with a dude from Deliverance-town Kentucky. we were in Columbus, OH (a very very small "city"). he was freaked out cause we walked past a homeless guy. im like.. seriously? thats a big deal? homeless people are just business as usual around here

I like a big city that has walkable spaces and a communal vibe. Which is why I love Portland.

I've lived in both and I love small towns.
Especially because they're are more true mom and pop stores, and it feels amazing to get greeted by name when entering their place of business.
I lived in this one town that literally had a gas station, a prison, a car dealership, a deli, and a park. The owner of the deli Genie would always give me free energy drinks when I stopped in her shop.
I currently live in a city now and I hate it. The traffic is horrendus, the side-walks are crowded, the bus stations are trashy, too much noise, too many lights.
You can easily forget yourself in a city.

I prefer the city here because you aren't necessarily forced to drive a car to make a living, especially a European city like Munich with excellent public transit.

I've lived both in big cities and small towns, and I much prefer small towns more. The "vibe" (for lack of a better word) is totally different here.
