Is a 12 inch diameter straw log too big?
    #14411147 - 05/06/11 04:22 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey, i just got a roll of poly tubing from fungi perfecti and it ended up being bigger than expected.  I ordered a 16 in diameter roll, and ended up with an 18.5 inch diameter roll.  This means that the log would have a 37 inch circumphrence, resulting in an 11.7 inch diameter.  Would this end up being too big?  I feel it possibly could be difficult to reach even moisture content with a log this big.  Any help would be apprecialted.

Don't go any bigger and u should be fine.  Giant 7' vertical logs might compress tighter under the weight and result in a oxygen deprived core but I bet you will be fine.  Pack it as tight as you can regaurdless.

I haven't seen any bulk horizontal log setups yet but RR says you will get better drainange and a more predictable moisture content going horizontal.. Good luck!

I was thinking about doing the log 3 feet long, and spawing with about 7 quarts of colonized WBS.  I had problems before because I didn't add lime to my pasteurization bath, but I have had great sucess with uncased monotubs.  I will definately post a grow log when I get the process going.
