Need vacation advice.

Ok so I have a lot of free time with no real responsibilities right now and a little bit of money. Wanted to get some ideas on where to vacation for a month or two. My current ideas are the grand canyon, Hawaii, hiking from san francisco to seattle (400 miles, 20ish miles a day), the Appalachian mountain trail or fly to someplace in canada. I know people near all of these locations except for canada. Camping/outdoors is the basic idea with all of these, so that I don't have to pay for sleeping space. I have also been looking at couch surfing.org. Grand canyon is the only would that I would take my car for. My starting location is texas. what do you guys think? I have $3000.00 that would have to last me the whole time. So the money is my only real limit, I have plenty of time. Is there some possibility that would be better then any of these? What would you do for a vacation if you were in my situation?

i have been on couchsurfing.org for a while now. i travel a LOT.. in the past few months ive been to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, and New York.. im going to NY again this weekend and in a month I'm going to South Carolina.
Couch Surfing is the first place i look every time. it is the greatest social network you will ever find.
Your destination really depends on what type of trip you are looking for.. if you want to hike/camp the whole way you can pretty much go anywhere.
In the northeast US and Canada there is a service called Megabus. Megabus prices start at $1. I rode round trip from Philadelphia to Toronto for $2.50.. ROUND TRIP! It is just intercity travel.. no local stops at all.
If you want to travel from city to city there arent many ways you could do it cheaper than megabus and couchsurfing.
Also check out wikitravel.org if you do actually end up heading into the cities.. really awesome place for good information about your destination.

3k u could have a great international trip, the plane ticket would be pricey but after that some third world countries can be lived on for like 10 a day, just make sure u dont need a visa before hand to get in, my buddy went to brazil and he didnt have a visa, denied entry , they made him go to peru and hang out in peru and get his visa for brazil there and then he flew back to brazil or maybe took a bus, not sure

Hike the Appalachian trail then fly out and raft the Grand Canyon commercially.

I'm sure wherever you go it will be awesome! It's not the money that's important, it's the attitude you bring with you! If you can find a cheap plane or boat ride to Europe, I'm sure you'd have a great time here! You can even board a ship as staff if you want and even earn something on the way! Then you can just hold your thumb up and go wherever the road takes you! Europe is full of tourists during the summer, you can see a lot of people, places, especially if you go somewhere where no one else goes!

could also go to miami and stay at the hostels and look for boats going to the carribean, ft. lauderdale has so many marinas and slips, it,s probably the best place in the country for getting on boats, some will want u to give some $ for the cruising kitty others dont i was supposed to help some dude sail his boat from there up to boston, the guy kept putting it off, we ended up just hanging out in ft lauderdale for like a month , i finally just flew down to the virgin islands , cause i found a flight for like 100 one way to st. thomas there are also business that connect people wanting to work as deckhands on some big boats, heard it kinda sucks though , cleaning and busy work most of the time

Central America. Get away from your culture for awhile.
It's beautiful, relatively safe, cheap, and full of good times.

yeah this is a great idea too.. Spirit Airlines has DIRT cheap flights to Columbia and Peru.
a quick search on their site and i see flights from Dallas/Ft Worth to Lima, Peru costs about $500.
thats fairly centrally located so you can get to different areas pretty easily.. Bogota, Santiago, Mendoza, etc..
if you get to Buenos Aries you could probably catch a ride on a cargo ship back home for cheap.
a basic knowledge of spanish would help but as long as you are in the city you should be able to get by.
