Hey Mr. Ajna,

I use Advanced Nutrients pH down. It's highly concentrated hydrochloric acid solution. 3 drops from an eyedropper is usually all I need. Although today I noticed I needed a few more due to the alkalinity of the Protekt.

Thanks for the tip on gradually lowering pH. My instincts tell me it would do good with a run off of around 5.5-6 ? I'm really not sure, but I'll slowly start to lower it.

I can definitely be patient, that is something I am very good at :pipesmoke: I just want to make sure conditions are optimal while I kick back and be patient ;]

Love and gratitude,
+

That sounds like a good target. Just use that pH down to adjust the water before watering when using the pro-tekt and use that on the low end. That stuff is superconcentrated. Its good for foliar feeding to. If you use it with neem it can help emulsify the neem oil. just heat it up a little before mixing the neem/pro-tekt solution.

how many hours light is it getting.  the new growth looks fine and old leaves drop...maybe you dont need stronger light but just more hours of it.

new growth is good, your probably fine as far as soil issues go...if leaves are dropping always with new growth being very healthy, its probably light/environment related.

medium light is better for caapi than super strong direct sun.  ours outdoors get about 14 hours of sun, which is direct but being in a tropical place there is so much water in the air the light is actually shaded somewhat. If you in places like western norht america with super strong summer sun, use 50% shade cloth under full sun until it takes off.

also keep in mind this is a very LARGE vine.  vines like this dont keep lower leaves.  they grow UP to the canopy and spread out dropping all lower leaves as they recent crap light.  caapi can be grown as a bush kind of, when not given any supports and high light.  but dont even sweat yellowing lower/inner leaves, cuase they serve no purpose and the plant is probably just ditching them.  not saying thats your issue, as the plant is not very bushy...yet

Hey Kada,

It's getting about 13 hours natural light with a couple hours fluorescent assistance from my bedroom. (Nothing direct, just a normal light bulb on the ceiling) It's indoors, but in a very bright room, and has almost reached the window.
I'm on the west coast of USA but in a 3rd story apartment, so it gets very warm up here.

Thanks for your words, I suspected it was just ditching these old leaves because it had grown new ones much higher up. I'm working on making plenty of wires to trellis for it to climb! <3

probably is light then.  a light on the ceiling will do just barely more than nothing for plants....too far away.
west coast usa can probably let it grow out a window during the summer, then cut it just before the window when it gets cold again.

that sounds like a cool room

Hey Kada, that's the point. The vine is in my extremely bright bedroom (it's bright at 6:30AM all the way until about 7-8PM) so I'm pretty sure the light it gets from actual bulbs is minimal at best.

As of right now I think the vine is really happy! Thank you all for the help I am so looking forward to watching this plant grow! It has grown almost 3 ft. in less than a month!

I'm jealous. mine just took the better part of a week to produce two very shiny leaves. I guess you can't expect too much from an inch or so tall plant..

Glad things are working out for you. Make sure we get to see more pictures!

OK I think its time for an update :]

Everything is good for the most part. Take a look and see for yourself. The only thing I'm worried about is I'm noticing small brown spots occurring on one of the largest leaves. I also notice this on some of the new growth, but that part is on the lower part of the vine and doesn't get as much light so I figure that's why?

P.s. It looks dark because pictures were taken in the morning light.

Pardon my complete newbishness, but I've been growing caapi for  few months now and its SUPER happy. Just put it into a mix of Coir, Soil and Sand and water it every 3 days. How much of a benefit does all this PH stuff have? Is it only needed when the plant is struggling? Or does it increase growth rate to have it at a certain level.

I hope it stays happy. I dont think its a good idea to keep the pH that high because caapi is used to more acidity and you may get nutrient lock out from the water not being that low.

IMHO, I think its best to mimic the plants natural environment in any way you can to ensure it's proper growth and happiness. This is just how I like to garden :]

only in pots do people really need to care.  Mine are growing at my farm in just about the worst hard dirt i have ever played with, but it does well.

those scorched looking newer leaves, are they getting direct sunshine through the window?  if so i bet thats why, being burnt.

Would you advise putting some thin cloth over the window to reduce the rays?
The caapi has reached the window and is multiplying!

nah, then your shading everything.  what i would suggest is jsut let it grow.  burn some leves, loose some leaves.  let it go, and it will get used to it and BURST through your window.

scorching is normal.  our outdoor plants after getting 1 month of solid dark cloud and rain then get a bright sunny day and also get scorched.  just part of life as a plant.  and if its that big and healthy, i would not worry one bit.
