Ok College Kids, I need your help
    #14409321 - 05/06/11 09:52 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I'm finally taking a class at the community college in the fall and I have to take a placement test to basically see where I stand even though I'm only taking a language class.

I took a practice placement test and I didn't have a problem with the reading comprehension portion, however, I didn't do too well in the Elementary Algebra portion.
I know it probably wouldn't matter what I did on the Math portion if I'm only taking a language class, but I want to get good placement in case I change my mind later and want to get a degree (They make you take introduction math classes before you take the required math classes if you get bad placement and want a degree.)

I'm a smart guy and I can figure out math problems, but when it comes to all the symbols and syntax of how they structure the problems, I simply just don't remember how they work.

I'm 10 years out of High School and I'm a bit rusty, so I figured maybe some of you young college students who have all this fresh in their minds could link me to some good study websites to help me brush up on some of this Algebra.  Like I said, I know how to do math, I just forget all the 15AX6B(3.X4-Y)=N stuff.

I have about a week before I go and take the real test... so,
any good websites or links are much appreciated!

Thanks.

If I were you, I wouldnt study for placement tests.  That circumvents their purpose.  If you are bad at math, you should be taking elementary algebra.

Yeah, just take the fail on the placement.  If you had a hard time with it than you would definitely want to take the elementary math class.  I'm also guessing that is an uncredited class?

I don't go to school anymore, but we had that placement test stuff and I got lucky and passed the math test... only to fail the math class I was put in.  So yeah... don't study for placement tests.  Maybe give your self a quick quiz review but studying for a placement test isn't a good idea.  You'll end up doing a lot better than you would have normally and possibly be placed into more advanced classes that will fuck you.
