Can anyone recommend good books/texts on buddhism/zen?

Not looking to get into the religious aspects of either but I am interested to read literature's that may relate to this subjects which has a lot of emphasis on nothingness, changing ones behavior, philosophies to live by, keeping peace of mind, discovering one's self,etc........
Basically readings that could compare to psychedelic drugs only it has nothing to do with drugs and you can spend some time reading on it to improve yourself.
I really like the book 'Be Here Now' but I am looking for something new and 'not' religious.
Thanks in advance.

Dr David Hawkins books are all great and I think you may like those the best if your looking for something new and not 'religious', he basically describes the psychedelic experience without ever knowing it. Manly P Hall has a few about buddhism. Esoteric Buddhisim is a good clasic
Hope those are what your looking for

Yea Be Here Now is great. Not many books like it. I see your looking for a book you can really feel and not just play with intellectually. I'd say check out some Zen koans and play with them during meditation.

I cannot recommend this book more strongly:
In the Face of Fear: Buddhist Wisdom for Challenging Times
It was published last year so it is very up to date and relevant to modern society and psychology. It is basically comprised of at least 20 big name Buddhist or Psychologist authors like Jack Kornfield, Ram Dass, Thick Naht Hanh... etc.
http://www.amazon.com/Face-Fear-Buddhist-Challenging-Shambhala/dp/1590307577
Secondly, my favorite novel, and very insightful read relating to Zen Buddhism:
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives
http://www.amazon.com/Way-Peaceful-Warrior-Changes-Lives/dp/1932073205/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304587196&sr=1-1
Also:
A Path With Heart: A Guide Through the Perils and Promises of Spiritual Life - by Jack Kornfield
http://www.amazon.com/Path-Heart-Through-Promises-Spiritual/dp/0553372114/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304587305&sr=1-1
And lastly, if you want to learn the actual technique that Guatama the Buddha taught to his students 2500 years ago (without going to a 3 day or 10 day vipassana retreat hosted by dhamma.org):
The Art of Living: Vipassana Meditation by S.N. Goenka
http://www.amazon.com/Art-Living-Vipassana-Meditation/dp/0060637242/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304587432&sr=1-2
Hope this helps!

"Dropping Ashes on the Buddha" by Seung Sahn.
I've read it several times over; fantastic for getting to know Zen. Contains many koans and discussions with a Zen Master.
A preview of some of his teachings- http://www.kwanumzen.be/page.php?pagename=Brussels%20and%20Antwerp

Lots of good suggestions in this thread... try Confession of a Buddhist Atheist by Stephen Batchelor if you want a more critical examination of Buddhism IMO.
