Had an idea for an experiment. Has anybody tried this?

I was fanning my PF cakes when I had a thought. Would it be better if the verm was replaced by coir? I figured it would increase the nutritional value of the cake substantially, and thus increase the yield from the cake. Has anyone tried this or have any thoughts neither way?

It's been done several times, all but a few with much less performance. What makes you think coir is more nutritious than verm? RR

I have read on several posts that verm has no nutritional content and serves only to hold water. The same posts also indicated that coir has nutritional value
But hey... That's why I asked

The verm is only acting as a barrier for contam. By replacing it with coir which has nutritional value that would defeat the purpose. Bacteria would grow in there becasuse you no longer have a barrier between the brf and the outside world.
If you did have some type of filter...such as tyvek, im sure it would work but not be of much or any benefit.

really?! im not sayin its not true because ive not researched it.. however id like to know the source of this information... im almost positive bulk subs perform better per volume.. i hear brf is the most nutritional sub from alot of people tho.. and RR answered your question.. but that doesnt mean you cant come up with a cake recipe of your own! maybe start by just adding a little coir to a regular pf cake and see how it performs or maybe a side by side test with a few different configs? experiments are good! i say go for it and let us watch you!

I was referring to the verm that is mixed in with the brf. The dry verm filter would have remained as well as the dry verm for rolling the dunked cake

I plan on doing a lot of experimenting this summer. And I will definitely post the results. However I figured asking can't hurt. And I know to listen to anybody with the Trusted Cultivator tag so I'll probably do something else. Maybe swapping out dehydrated manure for one part of the verm
