I have been reading my ass off & this is my first real hunt for ovoids, well at least i know there habitat, im not armed with that much knowledge. Ive just got back so i hope no one is pissed i dont have a spore print, its in the works right now. habitat was about 150 yards from a stream that floods on a mulch path. There bluing it appears. i didnt expect to find anything since people have been searching for years & not found anything. This was my 1st morel season & we found well over 800 including morels & a half (thats what there called) about 5-6" tall. Well i wouldn't waste everyone time here they r there's hundreds more too! thats why i am so excited.I just didnt want to pick them all.

Definitely psilocybe. Either ovoid or cyanescens

They are ovoids, not cyans.

Leave only the small ones that look like they have some growth left. Eat to your hearts content, just be careful with dosage of course, as always!

Yes. I have found Galerina Marginata (deadly) DIRECTLY next to where ovoids fruit. I got excited about some small ones being early Ovoids this year (they obviously were not). They can look VERY similar, if I had not seen Ovoids before I saw them I may have gotten excited. They grow in the SAME area, but they usually grow directly from logs (THIS IS IN MY EXPERIENCE, I AM NOT AN EXPERT) whereas Ovoids fruit from chunks of "debris", sometimes buried so they appear to be growing from dirt. Galerina have a much more noticable anular mark which is usually tinted orangey red. The spore print is rusty (I believe, I say again, I'm no expert), they display no bruising.

Yea i really need to take some pics for everyone, this is unreal they just run up the whole path , it's CRAZY MAN! In northern Va, we cant name specifics but the Potomac river branches off and becomes r drainage system around here. Its part of the park system and the trail runs for 44 miles. Pretty cool just found the trails a few weeks ago. It had rained for a couple days then got into the 40S for 1 night then today it was 68.

Use scissors or a knife, don't pull out the mycelium or it will have trouble growing new flushes this season.

just to reinstate, you ripped the shit out of them and pulled all the mycelium out. be careful they are fragile and easy to deplete with careless harvesting.
