Identification help needed
    #14406482 - 05/05/11 05:50 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Dear Shroomers,

I could really use some help in identyfying the following mushrooms:

Habitat:
They were picked in a pasture, in the grass surrounding cowpies and not in manure directly. This was in the Dominican Republic, but in the mountains, elev 800m - 2500ft. The climate is warm during the day - 80-90F/25-30C and cool at night 60F/15C...

Gills:
The color of the gills  is medium brown,

Stem:
stem is very soft and flimsy of the same color, quite thin - 2-3mm DIA

Cap:
Cap is brown, kinda looks like like a lib without the nipple?

Spore print color:
rusty brown with (maybe) a tiny hint of purple

Bruising:
NO Bruising!!!! - looked for blue very hard and still nothing!
Frankly Im concerned I might have a Conocybe coprophila that is poisonous at the worst and something awefull tasting without the happy at the best....

Thank you so much for your help

Probably a Conocybe species. I wouldn't eat them.

I thought Conocybes only grew in the dung itself. These were collected in the grassy area on a pasture..... Could it be something else?

Possibly a psathyrella sp. judging by the hygprophanous cap visible in the top left of the first pic.

No, they don't. To be honest, I'm not sure if there's even a single species of conocybe that grows directly from dung.

Conocybe has a brown spore print, Psathyrella a darker purple-brown.  Either way you can throw those away, they are not active.

There are no psychoative psathyrella species; at least, none have been discovered so far.
