Doing my very first grow and I am excited! My mom is lending me her high-def camera to take a photo journal step through step of my process. I am doing cambods I believe and I am doing the PF-Tek done right! I am currently working on constructing a PMP and gathering supplys. I was a bit ahead of my self at first wanting to dive in to live cultures and agar agar but as I read through this awesome forum I figured that I should crawl rather than trying to run right out the gate. Any comments, reccomendations, additions or subtractions, thoughts and trusted advice gratefully accepted. I do alot of research on my own but information coming from someone that really knows is more than appreciated. Keep ya'll posted as I get my spores from Ralphsters! support TRUSTED VENDORS to making my very first sterile print for future reference.

do yourself a big solid and do a SGFC for your first PF grow.... u dont want to get wrapped up in automating, over engineering, and just all around fucking with stuff too much....
I REALLY REALLY recommend going as simple as possible the first time, be it PF or bulk, idc, just do a simple FC, simple substrate, simple EVERYTHING.... then get more complex as you go..
i am not trying to shoot down your ambitiousness, make a PMP later (a grow or 2 in) ... then you will have 2 FC laying around and experience as to making both.... but the SGFC is more noob friendly IMHO.
just my 2 cents... good luck, cant wait to see pics

i agree with the shotgun. Build your PMP at the same time, shotgun takes like an hour to make if that. (more time to clean up the debris than to drill the holes)
Then you can throw a cheap hygrometer in your PMP and see how that goes, adjust things, maybe transfer one cake over to it when u think it's good to go and see how that does....but the shotgun will have good results for sure.

Thanks for the advice and to be totally honest I just want to me as lazy about the wait stage as possible. Hope things go well

ok mane.... just dont be suprised when if your over-engineered first attempt yields less than desirably.... not saying it will, i just know that the first few times i made a FC i went WAY OVERBOARD and it BLEW UP IN MY FACE... now my shits are sooooo simple... i fan when they look to wet, i mist when they look too dry..... at most i spend 10-20 minutes a day making sure they have proper conditions............ just sayin ;-P

i like the post ^^^ advice..... make both at the same time but plan on keeping it all in the SGFC... get a hydrometer, thermometer, and keep a close eye on how your PMP functions (run it without cakes in it, but set up exactly as you would were there cakes, and see how the humidity, temperature, etc goes) and if it looks good, transfer ONE of your cakes into the PMP from the SGFC, and see if it does better/worse than the ones in the SGFC.....
that way you can see how the PMP works, will having a FC that you know will work at the same time...
BTW when you do your SGFC, use RR's tips..... drill holes on all 6 sides, and make holes 2 inches apart in each direction (like a grid), and the holes shld be 1/4 inch...... listen to RR FTW

My order shipped today! Thank you Ralphsters! My burmese yangoon and SOTM (dancing tiger CHINA I believe) should be here on firday or saturday manybe I hope it gets here soon. I need to learn to be patient though cuz waiting is half the battle with cultivation. Will be posting all my procedure and steps as I go through and will be welcoming any sound advice and commentary from any who choose. Perhaps this can be a sticky and help other noobs out there. I started on a whim... I have done 100's of hours of hardcore, in-depth research form numorous reputable sources.... I have all the tools. And haven't a clue! I plan to follow my tek(s) to the tee save for proven additions/alterations suggested by said tek or reputable cultivators on the forum.

I'm so excited!!! Still waiting on my spores, waiting waiting waiting, With any luck they'll get here today or tomorrow but it's looking like tomorrow or next week. Just got 90% of my supplies and I have some Q's about grinding my BRF myself. I keep hearing conflicting information about how fine/coarse to grind it and I'm wondering if a trusted cultivator (RR where are you!) to give me a good hint. I know just testing it and working with it to find my happy medium is one of the best ways to gain experience but my supplies are kind of limited and well I want to try and start this off as well as possible.

OK so I got my spores today. Had just a tiny little hang up on my supplies though. I was only able to find 1/4 pt canning jars (4 oz), and 1/2 pt canning jars are... well.. we can all do the math. Anyway I am wondering the bennies and the baddies of this laps in my Tek. I however have a theory. Less area, less substrate, less colonization time, less risk of contamination. However this could be just mildly relative and have some truth (or none at all) but the difference could be minimal at best. RR, somebody competent, any trusted cultivator or some one who knows what the hell they are talking about give me a heads up please I am posting a separate post just on this question (please forgive me mods and long time members alike if I am going above and beyond but I am sterilizing my cakes now and proceeding forward and I would really like to know if I am destined for gore or glory! Hope some one answers soon I'm kinda freaking out....

I'm interested in watching your grow for sure! But can we please get a pic of your mom?

So I nocced up my jars today! I am going to borrow my mom's camera when they start to colonize. I made my own brf slightly chunky (the biggest pieces were about 2mm) And unfortunately I was only able to find the very fine horticultural verm and I added 2 tbs gypsum to the whole 10 jar batch. I think I put just a lil too much solution in my jars because I ran out with 2 syringes in 10 1/4 pt jars. (I hope that's a good thing) I wiped all my counters down after I began steaming my jars (the pot ran out of water once for about 2 min but the brf didn't look burned and the moisture content looked good from what I know and understand) and this morning when they were fully cooled i wiped all my counters down again with medical grade disinfectant. I dawned my gloves tucking them over my sprayed down long sleeve shirt and wiped my gloves down with germ-X and sprayed out a tub (my future SGFC) with my disinfectant and ran a lil alcohol through it too. I couldn't find the face masks I thought I bought so I sprayed down a bandana and used that instead. I flamed the needles between jars ans I would say I put about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cc's in each jar (oops) and put them in the case they came in after spraying it down good with my disinfectant. It's in a cupboard slightly covered with a paper towel no foil or tape etc. Any questions comments or concerns?

Pics of my mom are a probably not. A: She's in her late 40's (I'm 21) B: I'm 21 C: My step dad might not like it. This is kinda directed to my mycological adventures not what my mom looks like...

only comment is you are doing well to over think your sterile tek this early.
after some more experience you can be lazy
but i just dont want you to be wasting this much alcohol and disinfectant. ;p
basically the only way for your jars to get contamd is 1. they werent sterile from the steam 2. your syringe has somethign bad INSIDE it 3. your needle has something bad inside it
thats about it. so just make sure your flaming your needle and not breathing into the holes your pushing your needle into.
no need to spray anything where your jars are resting post-inoculation

1 milliliter of liquid will not mess the moisture content of your jar.
not in the least.
