    #14404936 - 05/05/11 11:58 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i was at the store the other day, and outside they're gardening department i saw stacks of white bags with black letter across the tops of them..upon further investigation i found they said nothing else but mushrom compost..just wondering if it could be used as a colonization substrate, or maybe to case with..never seen it before..or heard of it really..

Most likely it is spent compost from commercial white button mushroom production. Most of the desirable nutrient profile has been metabolized by the button mushrooms. It's great for plants or as a soil additive, but most likely not-so-great for mushrooms...

i would assume that it is organic soil, and not a very good source of nutrients for GRAIN lovers, like CUBES...

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

useless, its used substrate with little nutritional value

But has it ever occurred to you, Wally, that the process that creates this boredom that we see in the world now, may very well be a self perpetuating, unconscious form of brainwashing created by a world totalitarian government based on money and that all of this is much more dangerous than one thinks, and it's not just a question of individual survival, Wally, but that somebody who's bored is asleep, and somebody who's asleep will not say no?"

I know what all you have said is true, but I am currently doing an experiment with some cyans and mushroom compost... And they seem to be eating it up pretty well. Should be able to fruit in a day or two, so we shall see.

Cyans are mostly woodlovers, so they are looking for different nutrients than cubes/buttons...keep us posted though!

This mushroom compost came from a local mushroom farm... Got it for a garden I am starting and noticed it smelled really strong yet.
Had small woodchips in it as well.

This is after 3 days of chilling. I think its about time for a casing layer and fruiting? or in a few days.
