Well maybe with poo but that is just because it has all the nutes it needs and that is where it grows anyway. It wouldn't colonize coir, which I assumed he would be using since he said he was new to bulk.
I guess with the right additives to the coir it might colonize, but I am into the easy way, set it and forget it, one and done, get ready for the next batch unless it looks like it will give a good second flush.
I like my sub just slightly below field capacity because it seems to colonize faster, and I like it heavy on the grain spawn. I know and nobody cares. I am just bored soaking grains, guess I will use the hole saw to make a mono out of my new $3 tote.

I really respect your knowledge and abilities, and it's great the work you do with agar, but some of us like LCs and get results with which we're happy.

I have gotten a coir bag to successfully colonize using LC. It took forever and it wasn't pretty, but it worked.
That said... coir isn't a great substrate by itself, meaning if you want to get decent results with it, you should use grain spawn. The grain mixed in with the coir gives the mycelium a more diverse substrate. If you just put LC (GLC or otherwise on coir) it is not going to perform very well unless you have a ton of additives.
