Prestos suck.
The seals and valves tend to fail after a handful of uses and then you have to replace them often. Granted they're cheap compared to quality pressure cookers, so I guess it depends on what you want. You get what you pay for ya know.

If you plan on sticking with this hobby for the long haul then with out a doubt, you should invest in an All American.
They are top notch quality, and you are likely to die before your All American will stop working.

They aren't cheap, but goddamn they're worth it.

I got my Presto for a Christmas present in 1990/91 (can't remember) and haven't had to replace ANYTHING.

RR said that the earlier (made in USA) ones were great, the new (made in china) are not so much. I can back this up as I've used it many hundreds of times without fail.

There may be truth to what you say about the AA's but I would look for a used older Presto if you are on a budget.

I'd love to find a good used AA somewhere but they seem to demand a premium price in the used market. Hell I don't need one! I have my tried and true Presto.

Im was using a borrowed presto before and not having any problems.  I plan on getting a huge AA PC eventually with a psi gauge. But I dont have that kinda money right now(no job currently) and i seen that for 30 bucks and i could def afford that and be able to start tomorrow with out waiting.  I just wanna kno if anyone kno's if that particular one is tall enough to fit the half gallon jars i have.

no it won't fit. I have the same size PC and I can only do 3 quarts at a time, the 3 of them fit nice in there but there is no extra height room in there. Also, make sure it's 15 psi, a lot of those cheap ones are only 10 psi. I got lucky and boght a cheap 20$ 6qt from walmart that didnt have any label of the psi it reached. Got home and it said 15psi in the instruction.s

sure All americans are better or whatever, but i know i don't have that type of money. My cheap ass pc has lasted me at least 50+ quarts of spawn, 3 at a time, so thats some pretty good use and it still works like new. I couldnt be happier with it.

Just bought this bitch. Picking it up tomorrow. This is the one i was using before, i thought it was a preto but its not, its called basic essentials. Im guessing its 15 cause it was working fine.  If you need a good cheap PC that will hold 3 half gallon jars nicely. for 29.99 you cant beat it.  I looked alot i couldnt find a better deal. If it lasts a yr i'll be happy.

Are you serious? You can fit three huge half-gallon jars in that tiny pressure cooker? I find that hard to believe....but if you say you've done it who am I to argue. Just doesn't seem possible to me.

Buy a older Presto off Ebay....you can probably get one for under $50. I bought a 23qt. yellow Presto of Ebay (good quality it was probably 15 years old) for $37.00 plus shipping...came out to $50. That was back when I started out.

My next cooker was also a used one from E-bay, but this time I bought a 21.5 quart All American. This one's a tank....it set me back $140, 'bout half of what a new one costs.

Check craigslist too.

I have the same presto

3 wide mouth quart jars will fit in there or one spawnbag with about 3-4 quarts of spawn

3 regular mouth jars wont fit because its too tall

you have to put a little buffer at the bottom of the PC so the jars dont sit on bare metal so you have to take that teeny bit of space in to account

the half gallons jars would not fit in that PC

i have this PC and also an AA

this PC got me started in this hobby and is still kicking around.

I do have to replace the rubber gauge soon because it has developed a small leak.

you can get a PC that will fit 7 quart jars in for about 80 bucks new

you can maybe find an AA used for around the same price if you look

I found mine on ebay for under 100 including shipping but i havent seen one that cheap in a while

there is an AA model that holds 7 quart, one that holds 10 if you lay 3 horizontally, and a big daddy that holds 14

the one that holds 14 is like 300 bucks new and will be mine one day

the cheapo ones made in china will work for a long time if you take good care of it

why did you buy half gallon jars instead of quarts ?

It's not a Presto Its called an basic essentials and is a 8 qt. look at the second post. I already bought it. Im gonin to pick it up it a couple hrs.  They are half gallon jars im not bullshitting ya. it will fit 3 of them. yeah you have to make a ring out of lids for them to sit on, but so what.  It was 31 dollars with tax. I think its the best deal on a PC out there. If ya kno anyone starting out, looking for a Pc show it too them.  The second link not the presto.
