Three generations of B.C. family involved in grow-ops
May 4, 2011 - vancouversun.com

Police said today that an elderly couple in their 70s were busted along with other family members comprising three generations of a family allegedly involved in grow-ops outside of the Vernon in the Okanagan.

A day earlier, about 20 Mounties searched two properties in Falkland, a rural area located between Vernon and Kamloops.

Police seized more than 2,200 marijuana plants and $10,000 in cash.

Police also found a pricey Robinson R44 helicopter in one of the buildings during a search of the property in the 3900 block of Keller Rd.

But the helicopter was deemed unrelated to the current investigation and was not seized, RCMP Cpl Dan Moskaluk said Wednesday.

A search warrant was also executed at another property in the 3300 block of Highway 97.

The marijuana grow operations were found in a barn and a workshop on the two properties.

Five people were arrested, including a 78-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife, both from Falkland, a 53-year-old man from Enderby, a 44-year-old Falkland woman and a 24-year-old Falkland man.

Police said those arrested spanned three generations of the same family.

"It's not that common that we see that," Moskaluk said.

They have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and production of a controlled substance.

All those arrested have been released. Police said the investigation is continuing.
