Side pinning on uncased cube tray
    #14400958 - 05/04/11 05:00 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

When fully colonized B+ tray was put into the SGFC, all sides had pulled away about a half inch. After about a week, tons of pins started forming on all sides. The tray was already wrapped in four layers of duct tape to block light. The tray produced a half decent (1st flush) yield and is now being dunked for 24 hours. My question is, after dunking it will still be smaller than the tray. Should I fill the gaps with casing to prevent side pinning or do nothing?

Do nothing, let the sides pin if needed, but don't add a bunch of casing to the sides, you'll end up contaminating it. Just let the sub do it's thing :jah:

Yeah, what I figured. Do you think it will keep side pinning because that's where the first fruits appeared?

you never know, pinning is induced from water evaporation off the substrate and the microclimate is best on the sides as there is less air flow. I'd have to assume you'll see alot of side pinning.
However, the mushies should grow up from the sides and up into the air instead of staying sideways and staying down in between the sub and the tray

They do what they want. I've had excellent flushes even with tons of side pins.

Ya they grow straight still. Usually the casing shrinks quite a bit so they're easier to pick. Just make sure you twist nd pull.

It's funny they were so wedged in there, a couple snapped off at the base. Had to get that off before dunking
