Presto bit the dust.

Well I knew it would happen sooner or later, just not this soon. Ive had my Presto 23 qt for around 2 years I guess, and now its not forming a seal.
There is no visible damage or ware on the gasket, but it pours steam when you put the weight on.
Im thinking the aluminum lid has warped slightly, because when I press down on it the leaking stops until you let up.
I guess its time for an AA intervention..

2 years of steady use isnt bad, and now you can get a bigger better AA PC

cld just be the ruber ring that seals it up when u cook.. they sell replacements of those for cheap
also cld try oiling ur current ring really well , let it sit for a bit (few hours atleast), wipe of the excess, and see what that does

yeah if its the rubber ring definitely just get a replacement, but he said that he thinks the lid is warped
if thats the case might as well get a new one

Yeah I thought it was the ring at first, I took it out and oiled it a little (didn't let it marinate or anything) but it looks just fine, no little cracks or anything suspicious. Ill try oiling it up real nice and letting it sit...
Just sucks cause I have 2 big ass sawdust blocks and a bunch of grain soaking which will all become trash if I cant fix this today.

Did you let it cook out dry? That will do it!

Most the time when a seal goes bad, there won't be cracks or rips in it. It has just done a little shrinking. Buy a new gasket and replace. Like twelve bucks.

Funny you mention that actually, it does seem like the gasket has shrunk a little..

Once the gasket is cool...(Don't do it while its hot, it will snap.)just gently stretch it. It will buy you more time with it until you get a replacement. I have used them for about a month with weekly cycles doing it.

I actually just tried that, and it definitely fit better when I put it back in the lid.
It seemed like it was going to work beautifully, no leaking or dripping, but when I put the weight on again it started gushing steam as usual.
Pretty sure its just dead.
Thanks for all the help though!

A new gasket is about ten bucks at Ace. For two years work, that's not terrible.

It's a rubber-gasketted PC. Two years out of a $10 ring aint bad at all.

Upon reading the title of this thread, the first thought I had was "Well, it is a Presto."
Prestos warp over time, especially if you run a high work load on them. Had the same thing happen to my P23 after about 3 and a half years of consecutive heavy use on an electric stove. Now you have the excuse to make the upgrade to an AA PC or electric steroclave.

Mine's over 20 years old and has never given me a problem. To each his own I guess.

I think the older Prestos were American(?) made (IIRC).

Yes this is what happens. They warp not only at the top to where they don't hold pressure well, but they bow at the bottom so they don't sit flat against the stove.
A 2 year lifespan for an 80 dollar tool isn't horrible. That's about exactly how long mine lasted too.

No warranties from the store you purchased it at in the U.S?
I have two 21L Mirro PC's(Seem to be the Canadian Presto) one I purchased from Canadian tire and it came with a 5 year store warranty and another 5 years limited manufacturers warranty. The other PC I grabbed off kijiji for $30($130 brand new) and Canadian tire will take that back as well without a receipt if it fails within 5 years.
Something to look into, not sure how the return policies are in the states.
