Help Identify Please :)
    #14398338 - 05/04/11 04:59 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat: growing in damp area with lots of woodish shreds
lying around (kind of like bark but softer)

Gills: creamywhite or light brown gills

Stem: long, kind of tough, almost like wood the way it
breaks, blue bruising, white in colour, thickness half a
cm diameter roughly, solid

Cap: a very caramel kind of brown, 2-3cm diamater, baby
ones were spherical, we only picked older looking ones
that are quite flat, some had a nipple in the middle.

Spore print color: Currently none but am working on it.

Bruising: Dark blue bruising, looked almost black when
outside however being inside looks very blue

Location: Picked in Auckland, New Zealand.

other info: not really any strong smell, just typical earth/mushroom scent.

As a side note, what is the best way to wash them? just in warm water?

Psilocybe subaeruginosa. They don't need to be washed; just wipe them off with a soft brush or some tissue paper if you think it's necessary. But judging by how they look, you don't need to do anything.

How long do you guys think it will take for the smaller baby ones to grow big enough to pick? There were hundreds of them and we will definitely be keen to go hunting again

Couple of days to two weeks, depending on conditions. I'd check back in three days.
