Hey guys,
Can anybody tell me how many jars one can grow with 1 spore syringe? I just want to make sure before I buy them so I don't end up with too many.
Thanks lots.

Assuming you're using 1/2 pint jars with the PF tek, and your syringe is 10cc, you can do 10 jars. Use 1/4cc per hole for a total of 1cc per jar.

This is my second attempt at growing. The first time I used 1 pint jars instead of half pint jars and they took forever to start cultivating. Only one jar fully colonized while the rest are still only half way there after about 4 months! So anyhow, I tried again, this time with the right sized jars (btw, I am using the pf tek method). This time all of my jars (minus one) are almost fully cultivated after about 2 months (which I know, is still a long time). I found forest green mold in one of my jars (and tossed it), another jar has colonized all the way to the point that there are mushrooms growing inside of the jar (pins I think, sorry I'm new to this) so I removed the cake from the jar and on one of the pins I see a small green spot. I couldn't see it before I opened the jar and now I'm afraid that it may be green mold. Is it normal to have mushrooms already starting to grow before birthing? And if so, is it normal to see any kind of dark green color or does that always mean forest green?

Dark green is bad. Blue-green (leaning more towards blue) is usually bruising. Also, pinning in jars isn't ideal but it happens sometimes. Also, what temperature are you keeping them at? Are you packing your substrate? Is there foil on your jars? What's going on that causes them to take so long?

I have them in my room, which I keep at about 70 to 75 degrees most of the time. I took the foil off after I sterilized the jars, was I supposed to keep it on?
I think that the color is probably bruising, I'll def take a picture of it tomorrow, I would right now but I already have it soaking.

I have a tek on proper hand washing from medicinal grade sterility procedures I was wondering if someone would post this or tell me how I cant quite figure it out maybe im not looking right.
The Surgical-TEK
1: Surgical scrub : Clean under nails with a pick. Nails should be maintained with a 1mm free edge (I don't think this is necessary for cultivation but I do know its needed before you open someone up with a scalpel!) Dispense 5 grams (about a softball sized ball) of antiseptic/antimicrobial foam hand wash onto one hand. (I recommend foam because there isn't and water or multi surface touching which defeats the purpose) Spread on both hands, paying particular attention to nails, cuticles, and inter-digital (between fingers) spaces and forearms. Rub into skin until dry. Dispense 2.5 grams (golf ball size) onto one hand and rub into hands up to wrists until dry. And your done.
The above directions can be modified by washing with antibacterial/antiseptic wash and then follow the steps with Germ-x hand sanitizer but will not prepare you for surgery.
2: Personnel hand wash: Dispense 2.5 grams (about a golf ball) into one hand rub into hands up to one inch above the wrist paying special attention to nails, cuticles, and inter digital (between the fingers) spaces. Rub vigorously until dry.

You should always wash your hands and arms up to your elbows prior to doing Mycology work but it is much different than doing surgery. You should be wearing gloves and keep putting rubbing alcohol on them so the nitty gritty hand washing isn't an issue. CH

Thought I would relay this new source for syringes up to 60ml As well as medical tape. Masks, gloves. For example they only charge 0.75 cents for a 60 ml syringe. Prices there are very reasonable and they have a pretty huge stock of everything.

Question to anyone who knows, my mushrooms just started growing in my terrarium. They let off a black dust like substance on to the sides of the terrarium, wondering if that's normal or if I need to toss them.
