I have nothing to talk about in therapy.

I have healthy relationships with everyone I know,

no real stress in my life.

The only stress comes from boredom I think.

All I'm saying is that I felt this way after some stupid drug combinations over 2 years ago, and all the stress "relief" methods haven't done a fucking thing. I think something that raises serotonin levels "could" potentially do wonders for me.

see a different shrink and ask them specifically for an anti depressent and I bet they'll give it to you.

psychiatrists love to throw SSRIs at people

It's like people think their brain chemistry exists in an alternate dimension completely uninfluenced by the events and experiences of their daily lives, perfectly walled-off from everything but other chemicals.

OF COURSE talk therapy could fix a fucking chemical imbalance. Talk therapy helps you identify lifestyle problems and provides emotional catharsis which (in case you've never experienced it for yourself) has a massive effect on immediate synaptic activity.

That's funny.  I'm over 30 and it's basically true.  I went to my doctor because my back was being a bitch.  I didn't even ask for it but walked away with a script for 40 10mg hydrocodone and some muscle relaxers.

When I asked her about medication it went kind of like this:

"Well I think there's a chemical imbalance of some sorts"

"What makes you think that?"

"Well sorry about that last statement, everything is obviously chemically related, so I guess I said it wrong"

She looked at my funny.

"OF COURSE talk therapy could fix a fucking chemical imbalance. Talk therapy helps you identify lifestyle problems contributing to your problems and provides emotional catharsis which (in case you've never experienced it for yourself) has a massive effect on immediate synaptic activity."

So you're saying medication is completely useless and group therapy is actually perfect for everyone and I know nothing about my body.

I'm saying benzodiazepines are the last resort when prescribed by responsible doctors.

Reading folks, try it.

No you're fucking not, because you refused to try group therapy and talk therapy. :wow: This sounds more like drug-seeking behavior than any attempt to really solve real problems.

Let me break it down for you

1) I've tried numerous techniques for years, nothings worked
2) I have a good life and job and (decent) health and relationships and hobbies, I have nothing to "vent" about
3) I haven't done drugs in over 2 years, despite being offered several times

How does that sound like drug seeking behavior?

I merely want to give some sort of antianxiety/depressant medication a couple of week trial to see if that alleviates the symptoms, if not then I'd be willing to knock that off the list of possible causes.

Jeez.

Dude try group therapy first. You dont wanna take SSRIs before you've tried everything else anyway. Its more difficult, yeah, but its a REAL fix. Taking SSRIs to help anxiety or depression is like taking vicodin to fix a broken leg. It just helps with the symptoms but doesn't help take care of the real problem.

I'm not judging you or anything, I'm just explaining to you how a responsible doctor would view your behavior.

And there is much more to talk therapy than just "venting." Meditation and yoga have beneficial effects, but they are different processes from talk therapy. It's a two-way process. You yourself said that boredom causes you stress, and a therapist or a group familiar with stress management have a good chance of being able to help you find ways to deal with that without drugging yourself into zombitude.

Yeah I can read. I never said you want to take drugs to fix your boredom I was referring to you wanting to take drugs to fix your issues with stress and anxiety.

I believe you don't need to feed on big pharma drugs to fix your issues . Fix them from the root, don't feed them with drugs. You said yourself boredom is causing you this stress so fix your boredom issues and do stuff that makes you really happy, don't take benzos. That won't fix anything but will most likely make it worse at the root of the problem. :twocents:

Group therapy isn't a fix, just a coping mechanism, I have nothing to cope with other then the spontaneous anxiety.

You're aware you can take drugs without being a zombie right? And I think I mentioned Meditation & Yoga did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for my problem.

I've been "Fixing them from the root" for 2 years, nothing's helped.. The root of the problem is that my mind is fucked up for no reason.. I don't even know if it IS anxiety, which is why I want medication to help rule it out.

Medications don't treat all anxiety. I saw a guy earlier today in another thread say benzos made his anxiety worse.

Well then I would stop taking them. Like I said, I merely want a trial to see if it WOULD help. I'm not even sure if it IS anxiety or just something else (pain wise) that is causing the anxiety. I'm pretty sure the anxiety sprouted from something else that's wrong with me, and unfortunately for me, has only lingered, and I'm not sure if the initial symptom is even around anymore. Does that make any sense?
