what do you do to stay healthy?
    #14395634 - 05/03/11 05:56 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

personally i've been drinking 2 cups of organic loose leaf green tea, taking fish oil tabs, and drinking nothing (few sodas) but water for the last couple of months.. i havn't noticed anything yet and don't expect to really but i'm mostly interested in the cancer/heart disease fighting properties of taking these substances.. fuck cancer.

I reduced my calories, and stopped eating before bed.  That is the real weight gainer.

All winter, I was getting wasted all the time, going to this 24 hour restaurant, and killing a whole plate of loaded fries, then passing out haha.

Now I drink occasionally, and just don't eat before bed.

Oh and work out.  It's hard for me to get motivated to run.

I'm mostly just trying to get my full daily intake of everything. Fiber's the foundation and I insist on getting 100% of that every day. Furthermore I eat grains, fruits, and salads, and try to limit my intake of disproportionately fatty and salty foods. I take a multivitamin every day. I get out for exercise (hiking and biking) several times a week.

I just hope all of this offsets my general practice of being drunk and/or high about half of my waking hours. :argh:

Supplements don't do nearly as much for your health as a consistently good diet, regular exercise, and sobriety. Vitamins can definitely help but they're more for support than anything like "health in a pill."

I want to start juicing a lot more but getting good fruits/vegetables is impossible here, definitely gonna start again when I'm back West. Yeah I've never noticed any benefit from any vitamins except fish oil, fish oil has ---DRASTICALLY--- improved my long term memory recall.

One good supplement is piracetam, I have like a pound of the stuff but I've been too inconsistent to take it daily. I'm not big on supplements anyway, I'd prefer just to have a naturally healthy lifestyle supported by one daily multivitamin. (Though sometimes I'll pop B-vitamins when I'm on some sort of hangover/comedown.)

Fruits and veggies are tough... for fruits I mostly eat apples, and for veggies I've taken up the practice of eating salad every day. TBH I thought it would be harder to get on the salad wagon than it actually has been. Just get yourself some bomb-ass salad dressing, some croutons, some feta cheese...

I just threw away a giant thing of piracetam. I didn't like the taste and didn't notice anything after 2 weeks. Honestly I think supplements are a gigantic scam. Like I said I only take Fish Oil caps, since I hate fish. Salad really depends on what you eat IN it, it can be useless or even unhealthy. I was juicing about 15 carrots a week and about a pound of spinach.. tastes SO good together and bombards you with Vitamin A/C/100 other things. I only did it 3 days so it wasn't overwhelming my body, but like I said, there's no produce stands here like back home :crankey:

thin doesn't equal healthy.  I've always been thin and muscular but there have been lots of times in my life when I've been completely out of shape.. unable to climb a flight of stairs without being winded.  My body always looks like its in shape, but it isn't always in shape.  I just have a fast metabolism and naturally athletic frame.  When i let myself go my body doesn't change hardly at all. but it shows in my stamina, strength etc.

I used to work out a lot but now I just work.  My job is somewhat physically demanding so when I come home at the end of the day and I'm sore I think "fuck the gym, I'm too god damn tired to work out anyway".  I also eat multivitamins every other day or so (too much of that shit will give you kidney stones).

Regular sex is a great workout too. it'll give you a nice workout, boost your testosterone and make you feel good about yourself.  its hard to motivate myself to work out when my girl already finds me irresistibly attractive.  I'm probably going to die of a heart attack at age 45, looking like a perfectly healthy man.. i love meat, bacon, cheese, and every other food that tastes good.

I never said it equaled healthy, but I have no business losing weight

I run every day for about an hour, but I never really saw how "going to the gym" automatically means that you're fit. Sure you can lift a big ass rock or beat my ass, but I have a friend who can lift it with me and a gun to shoot you in the face. I don't like gym/fit culture  I can see the need if you're an athlete or trying to lose weight, but these muscle head retards just annoy me. You may in fact die young, which is why I think eating right is INFINITELY more important then picking up heavy objects

I agree about the sex thing though... definitely a fun workout  My girl could lose a few pounds (10-15, she knows it too) so maybe I'll use sex as an "add on" to her regular workout routine

Yeah I have a hard time giving a fuck sometimes.

When I've "worked out" every day for over a year, and when I sit and do nothing, I feel better when I sit and do nothing, honestly and truthfully

Sure I'll get tired faster if I run and I can do less pushups... but why the fuck would I wanna run or do pushups?

I know, but you can definitely get away with eating shitty food every once in a while as long as your diet is good the rest of the time.
That's what I do, maybe 2 or 3 meals a week I'll eat something nasty, like a burrito from this mexican place by my house, or a fat red robin burger, or some chronic pizza :homerdrool:

it makes it even better when you eat those foods as sort of a reward...fuck it I'm super healthy

I know it's a bit early in my life (24) to get excessively concerned about nutrition, but shit, I figure better sooner than later... I know someday it's gonna creep on me that I'm not young anymore, and I'd like to be in relatively good shape to blunt that impact.

Sex to maintain endorphin levels

Weed to prevent neural excytotoxicity damage, promote neurogenesis and drive pre-cancerous cells towards apoptosis

Exercise to upregulate levels of superoxide dismutase etc whose function is to sequester and detoxify the oxidative stress generated free radicals

Less processed foods as the preservatives in them have been linked to colon cancer

Reading and other mental activity to reduce the chance of dementia and alzheimer's

Plenty of fresh organic food to provide you with a unique set of phytochemicals that do your body a ton of good

Shroomery for lulz

That should cover the basics
