Scaly Inky Caps- Edibility?

I found a really nice cluster of Scaly Inkies with Vagabondsun this afternoon in Southeastern Pennsylvania. They were growing on hardwood debris and the majority of them were not inking, or only slightly grey. We harvested a pretty good amount and are finding some sources that say "edible, with caution" and "questionable". The mushrooms that we picked do not have an unpleasant odor and we cut away everything that was not pure white. That being said, what are your thoughts about having these mushrooms for dinner? Eat a little bit and brace for a belly ache??

Coprinopsis variegata
They usually pop up this time of year in the Northeast from buried wood. I think they're one of the ones you should avoid alcohol with. They supposedly taste nasty.

Roger's Mushrooms says: "Edibility suspect-may cause stomach upset in some people."

I won't eat scaly inky caps aka Coprinopsis variegata or closely related species even if listed as edible unless I really needed to, because as you may know they undergo deliquescence soon after you picked them.
sure you'd make that enzyme inactive by cooking but still...was worth it?
also from what I've read its edibility isn't well established to I guess it's just matter of liking to eat an inky sludge or not but let's hear experts about this.

They don't have any inky sludge on them. They are pure white and they smell fresh. They are all really young, mostly pins.

If you get them as buttons, the caps won't mature or turn inky. Typically I only collect unopened caps for the table. I wouldn't be tempted to try these though based on their culinary and belly-achin' reputation.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm just trying to make the best of a morel-less hunt.

I ate these without any problems. I just fried them up and ate them on pasta. Probably not good to eat with alcohol though, as that is suspected to be a reason for stomachaches
